Factory weight?

Featured Replies

Whats the factory weight of the fabia vrs?

Bloody heavy!

If i remember, about 64kg heavier than a mk4 golf, or an ibiza, something like that!

1315 kgs if i remember correct

I know all the info about the car says its 1315kgs but how can it be so much heavier than other cars from the same stable with very similar specs. sites quote Ibiza FR 1.9 tdi @ just over 1200 kgs

Seat Ibiza 1.9 TDI FR | UK New Car Research

Two extras doors...I've had mine on a Weighbridge and it IS 1315Kg.

1208KG according to seat is for the 5 door version and 1180KG for the 3 door fr tdi 1.9

I dont doubt anybody who has had their cars weighed, wonder where the extra 100KG comes from

Matt

The vRS brochue says 1315Kg.

BUT!

"Figures are for vehicle carrying average load and three passengers."

How much does a driver and 3 passengers and an 'average load' weigh?

200Kg?

The Fabia should not weigh MUCH more than the Seat Ibiza 1.9 because it's the same car other than extra doors.

I think the Seat weighs 1260Kg but I don't know if the Seat weight includes the passengers too and load too?

mine was 1180kg on a wieghbridge with no driver and nearly no fuel, that was this evening:rofl:

I'm going to have to get the mongrel weighed after her next weight stripping exercise. Need to get an accurate BHP per ton.

Hmm.......and Phillip26 reckons his was 1315kg......

It's odd how it's such a heavy bugger. My 318iS weighed 1270kg and that was a much bigger car. 1.8 16v petrol engine though, although it did have an iron block.

Having said that, fitted new discs and pads the other day. The discs were pretty heavy. Dread to think what 312's feel like.

mine has the 312's on too,and the bridge i wieghed on was deadly accurate, its used to wiegh non ferrus metals in so its well accurate, may do a confirmation on another bridge on my way home tommorow:D

1180kg sounds like a much more sensible weight rather than the 1315kg shown in the spec.

That would also correlate with the Ibiza and Polo kerb weights.

But why bother over estimating so much

Thing is, the Ibiza FR (apart from different styling, a 3 door version and stiffer suspension) is otherwise no different to the Fabia and so costs more. Perhaps it's a marketing ploy? Having said that, it's something they don't publicise so maybe not.

I agree though, something doesn't add up. Same chassis, same lump, same ancilliaries, similar interiors etc etc. I'd love for an Ibiza/ Polo owner to go to a weighbridge. Anyone a member of a Seat forum?

don't think it is an overestimate,i think it is done with an average load in it,mine would wiegh 1280 with me in it,add 40 litres of fuel and your not far off 1315kg are you?

the Ibiza FR is available in 5 Door, just rare as rocking horse ****County Garage -||- For Sale: SEAT Ibiza 1.9 TDi 130 FR 5 Door. When i was looking at the VRS the seat salesman assured me he could get me a used one.

Like Crispy notes, an accurate weight of FR and Polo would be very useful

a group wiegh? i couldn't put my little furby thru the torture:rofl:she might develope issues

So, would this mean with an average load, a driver and some fuel in it, the Polo/ Ibiza wouldn't be far off the same? I'm curious now. :D

The MKIV Golf was a different chassis and so can't really be compared. Mad though how it's that much lighter.

don't know,i think the fabia is heavy, the other quoted figures would be under the same conditions,so the fabia would still end up being 200kilo's heavier than the polo/ibiza

I wonder how? Do the Czechs fill the sills with lead or make the body panels a few mm thicker than the Spaniards/ Germans?

Wierd, definitely wierd.

200kgs is a huge amount to gain if weighed under the same conditions dont you think. Considering the vast majority of parts are identical.

Do you think its to mask possible conservative perfoemance figures???

no, iknow what mine wieghed, and with me in it and a full tank it would be near as dammed 1315kg,so they are not exagerating its lardiness

i don't dispute that you know what yours weighed, maybe the parameters for other very similar marks are different then???

Maybe their Kerb weight is without people and fuel!!

Interesting. The only real differences are the body and the interior. The Polo and Ibiza come with more sound proofing and I'd imagine the Polo has thicker paint (the Fabia's is pi55 thin).

Makes you wonder how the Fabia weighs more at all.

The 5 door issue obviously comes into play though, extra doors weighing more. 200kg more though?.....

Probably in the boot lid.

Anyone tried lifting it without the boot struts connected?

LOL. Dunno about the weight but it rattles enough. Must be all the horseshoes Skoda put in there to make it heavier.
