Creeking From Steering

Featured Replies

dont know if any body has had this but when my car is at a stand still and wheels are striaght if i turn slowly to to right i get a creeking sound from somewhere behind the front drivers wheel to the steering rack but not sure quite whereabouts. only does it to the right for 1/4 of a turn and not to the left. any ideas?

also keep getting engine management light coming on and staying on, the code im getting is bank 1 to lean what could be the problem have had new air mass sensor a year ago and car is now running slugish.:(

I had that light on when i bought my vRS. Plugged it into a specialists computer and came up with a lean error aswell. You could also hear that the engine wasnt happy as it was a bit lumpy on idle. Luckily the guy knew exactly what was wrong, and went straight to it.

The problem was a badly leaking hose under the intake manifold. Its a small diameter hose (1-2cm) and only about 6-8inches long. If you take off the plastic trim by the dipstick, and get some light under there im sure you will find it. Also, poking it made a sucking sound. When the leak first started the ECU could increase the fuel to maintain the A/F ratio, but when the leak got really bad it couldnt compensate and ran lean (turning the light on).

Replaced the hose and now all is well. It might work for you, so have a look.

About the steering, I've got no idea! My power steering pump moans quite loudly sometimes (normally when cold) when turning. Not sure why! But I haven't heard any creaks. Yet.......

Hope ive been of use!
