Long life oil price

Featured Replies

Went to dealer today to get two liters of Long Life oil for my Octy 2.0 TDi. I found it expensive, just like I did last year when I got my two liters.

As you all know, this engine likes to consume some oil. Mine consumes arround 2 liters in 17.000km.

This time I paid €75 for two liters ((£50, VAT included). The oil is "Castrol Long Life 3". Last year was "Galp Long Life 3" and the price was more or less the same.

I was wondering if trying to find this kind of oil not at the dealer's shop but somewhere else, would be less expensive. True is I've never seen Long Life Oils out in any shop. Should I look harder? Will I save money?

Thanks

For a one litre bottle I find my local Skoda dealer to be as competitively priced as anywhere else (here in UK) - £14.08 for one litre of Shell Helix Ultra VX (VW 507.00 compliant) including a neat carry case with gloves, paper funnel and wipes.

My best suggestion is to check from this 'sticky' thread http://www.briskoda.net/forums/new-octavia/what-oils-meets-specs-vw-504-00-507-00-a/55476/ which oils are available in the shops or on-line in Portugal (probably a completely different set to those available here in UK) and work from there.

Thanks for that

A few of us used Opie Oils recently and were very impressed with the price and service - http://www.briskoda.net/forums/tuners-workshops/big-thumbup-opie-oils/92327/

They are one of the site sponsors - http://www.briskoda.net/forums/general-car-chat/opie-oils-new-website-preview/93736/

According to their website you can phone them for a quote for international delivery and at the prices you are paying it could be worthwhile even with the postage cost - https://www.opieoils.co.uk/CarriageCosts.aspx - although you might need to buy 4 or 5 litres at a time to make it work out.

I have often looked for the oil for our Octy 2.0 dsg 140bhp 55plate and has been said it does vary in priices but as of yet in 22000+ miles have never had to put any in apart from the first dealer service.I do check often but it remains the same level. So i wonder for the reasons that some octy's get through more than others.

I can get 5L of millers VW506.1/507 for a smidge under £40 now (damn oil prices). I just fill up the 1L bottle as and when it gets to half way and keep that in the car.

Much cheaper way of doing it

I just pop into wherever and grab a litre of 507.00 compliant oil when required, it stores quite nicely in the little pockets in the rear doors, as does the VAG washer fluid bottle.

It's usually about £14 a litre so no great shakes.

My 2.0 TDI has consumed about 1.5 litres in 16,000 miles.

Hi, check out good old ebay, I have just purchased 2 brand new and sealed 4 litre cans of Mobil One ESP 5w-30, 507.00 spec, for just £53.50 including delivery, works out at just less than £6.70 per litre. I know its a lot to buy in one go but I simply keep one for topping up purposes, and give the other can to my dealer for when car is in for servicing, saves having to pay the high price of the dealer supplied oil. I gather you are in Portugal, but their are also international sellers on ebay selling for similar prices.
