Service Intervals/ Dealer Dramas

Featured Replies

Hi all, ive just joined the site and must say im impressed. Ive had my 07 black magic Vrs for 6 months and reached 9k on the clock. Can anyone give me the correct servicing intervals? The dealer in Grimsby where i bought it reckon every 10k but i believe it doesnt have to be that regular with the oil used? Also when i picked the car up it never came with a owner manual or a service history book, ive just recieved the owners manual for the new shape Fabia which is of no use at all, i cant work out how to adjust the clock and its doing my nut in! Any suggestions on how to sort this would be greatly appreciated. Sorry if there is a similar servicing question floating about but i cant seem to find it, thanks

Yep, it IS every 10,000 miles or anually (whichever comes first). Although, some on here change their oil more frequently than that anyway....Never a bad thing!!

Also, to set your clock, make the trip computer display the clock and then just TURN the odometer reset button - to the left for hours, to the right for the minutes. Simple

The PD 130 engine in other applications (e.g in the Golf) can be set to variable intervals but I believe the Fabia doesn't have the oil quality sensors (or something similar) which allow it to be set to variable.

Your Right

should be 10k or annually as already said ^

I change mine every 5k and use miller xfe-pd oil

1 year or 10,000 miles which ever comes first and use the correct PD oil. It doesn't have to be serviced by a dealer to keep the warranty, you don't even have to use VW parts - the parts must be of equivalent quality and if a fault developed due to the use of these parts then it will be up to to prove their quality, so to save the hassle use VW parts.

The mk1 fabia cannot be set to variable, the engine is missing most of the key sensors used by variable servicing and the ECU cannot have the attribute set. Therefore the PD130 vRS servicing is always every 10k miles (approx 16,000kms) or annualy.

You need to get back to the dealer and make sure that he supplies you with the correct paperwork pack for this car - I assume that he isn't a Skoda dealer because if he was then this would never have happened, unless of course he is a muppet. What you are looking for now is a replacement pack - and it should not end up being marked DUPLICATE if the car was first reg'd new (<10,000Km) in UK. This new pack must include the "build statement" sheet PDI details etc - all this he should be able to get from SUK. Right now you might not have a problem, but a few years down the line this lack of documentation could knock quite a bit a money off the car's trade-in or private sale value. Better to sort it out NOW!

I'd contact the previous owner to see if he has the information and also ask them to confirm the mileage is correct.

One other issue you have is, if these people ARE complete muppets, then where do you think you stand with regard to warranty and consumer's rights in general as it looks like all you have to tie this dealer to your money and that car will be a receipt or bill of sale - in extreme cases when everything goes t*ts up, you might have trouble getting a quick resolve to problems. I'd sort this out A.S.A.P. - this is not a good situation to be in! Good luck!
