Fabia VRS Clutch Life?

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, just doing a bit of research on behalf of my dad who has a VRS. He rang me up earlier today saying that he thinks the clutch is starting to go and slips when he is pulling away in traffic. Now his car is 2 years old and on 52,000 miles. He doesn't drive like a rally driver and takes good care of his car.

To me this seems far to early for the clutch to be on its way out. As such what's the average life you lot have had from your standard vrs clutches and are there any known issues that could be causing excessive wear?

Thanks

Mat

Hi mat,

In the process of replacing my clutch at the moment. Mines done 44k and 24k of that it has been remapped ;)

I drive like a tool most of the time, and i am actually supprised it has lasted this long.

Got a new flywheel on friday and my sach organic clutch should be here on monday.

I know this is no use to you as yours is a standard car but, it might not be the actual clutch plate that is slipping? If the flywheel gets too hot it will blue the surface and cause micro-cracking.

I am sure someone will be along shortly to help out though :D

If you feeling energetic you have my old one, put that in then go for a drive with the wife

Possible options = helix SMF + clutch 790+vat

New Sach DMF + sach organic friction and pressureplate (i wont tell you what i paid ;))

New Dmf + oem release bearing + slave cylinder + oem clutch kit = £377 all in :D

Or a spec clutch price dependent on spec

think it will be a spec stage 3 jobbie, where do i get one from, might have overdone it a bit with mine,i am struggling to drive it ,it is slipping that bad:rofl:going to do the smf,lsd while i am at it:thumbup:

Youve probably overheated the flywheel, I bet its in a right state when you take it off :D

Try here for spec clutchs

thanks john,a spec stage 3 plus smf will be in my posetion soon:thumbup:

to the OP , my original clutch is at 54k , and has been abused at 3 Oulton Park track days , 2 Ring trips and a track day at Spa Francochamps, no slip at present

ah but you wern't trying to destroy yours:D

Mine did 80,000 miles of learner training, and still felt like new...... it had some abuse, treating it very gently can cause the surfaces to glaze...

slipping can be cured (sometimes!) by giving it some abuse, there is a specific technique, some members have successfully done this and made the slip go away.... lets hope one of them posts withtheir experiance! :)

just nipped out,its not slipping anymore:confused:

My clutch was slipping at 45k when i bought the car, but i wasnt the first owner...

No slippage thus far and I passed 91k today 60k of which have been remapped :D

But your remap is crap :P

101k - bout 90ish K remapped... get clutch slippage occasionally when sticking the boot in, it started the day after it was remapped, only does it once then its fine for a couple of weeks.

But your remap is better than my suspension :P

:finger::D

Been at standard for about 54k of its 57k, but my clutch is still absolutely fine...
