N/S gearbox mount replacement?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

About 6 months ago I performed the official Skoda 'fix' on my N/S engine/ gearbox mount which cured some mild knocking over bumps and clunking when dipping the clutch to change gear. Recently, I've got a new knocking.....well, more of a big single clunk when I go over big bumps such as railway crossings. Now, it sounds like it's coming from the same area again but is a much bigger noise than before.

My question is, can these mounts fail completely thus requiring replacement? Also, does anyone know if they ever did a technical update on these things in the same way as say the drop links, meaning the later mounts would be more resilient?

Ta,

Chris

could be a drop link knocking

never heard of total failure of the gearbox mount

Nope, just replaced them a few weeks ago. Also had new console bushes, dogbone mount, track rod ends and the ARB collars are tip top.

Not sure what else it could be. Sounds like it's coming from that area though like last time, only bigger.

Sure I heard of someones mount dropping to bits, perhaps after a remap.

Pretty sure there was one a long time ago which needed a new mount - Don't think he's a member any more as he sold the car.

Ahhh......was it Hellfire? Seem to remember it being him.

Wondering if the later mount is any better (assuming VAG had some sense to update it) or the same. Any SE owners that have needed the 'official fix' ? :D
