Fabia Mk1 vs Mk2

Featured Replies

Why does everyone assume this as soon as people give an honest personal opinion of a car. We all bought Fabia's cos of the MKI.....there was no other Fabia at the time. Then when the MKII comes out (and many MKI owners don't like it) everyone starts screaming luddite and accusing people of hating new things. That's not the case at all. I just don't think it's a step up from the old one which is one of the main reasons manufacturers develop new versions of models. The interior (my main dislike and subject of all my posts on this thread) is its biggest let down and many seem to agree.

Exterior looks wise, yeah it's ok. Quirky in the typical Skoda way but ok. Having said that, if it weren't for the vRS I wouldn't even own a MKI as I find them bland to look at.

Needs bigger wheels to counteract the height and a few subtle styling changes here and there to look 100% in the aesthetics department IMO.

 Spot on!!

Technically the Mk2 is built on the same chasis as the Mk1 - I wonder why Skoda did this - do you think it was to save money? :(

Granted the Mk2 has a different body... which in my oppinion is too high and too narrow; and until I see what the Sport/vRS model looks like I wouldn't even think of owning one.

I hope the Mk1 will be a classic in the future - it was the first in a new generation of Warm Hatch Diesels which has sadly been surpassed - probably with some meddling from VW! :P

Assuming you ignore the ones in the 80's and 90's ;)

Hence why he said 'new' generation...... :D

Besides, what warm hatches were diesels in the 80's and 90's?

The only one I can think of was perhaps the 306 DTurbo and that wasn't very quick.

I think the Furby's appeal was the "Wolf in sheep's clothing" factor... when they first appeared nobody would even attempt to race a Fabia because it was "just a Skoda" and as such, they would try and ourun in the wrong gear etc.

The number of CTR / BMW drivers I left for dead can vouch for this... simply because they didn't know what hit them :D

Before the Fabia bashing brigade arrive - it wasn't because the Furby was faster... it was because they were complacent and couldn't be bothered trying ;)

That's all past now though... people know what the fabia is capable of and as such they make an extra effort :P

If a new vRS does arrive... I'll look at its inbred exterior and think... hmm, wonder what she drives like - and I hope that Skoda take that into consideration and make it something special like the Mk1! :)

Quoting the holy trilogy... "She don't look like much... but she's got it were it counts!" ;)

I've not driven a mk2 fabia, only sat in one. Wasn't over keen on the interior, FAR too much beige...I love black myself!! and the glove box is truly awful. No room in it whatsoever

The most annoying thing with the MK II fabia I discovered last time I had one.

- Put the drivers seat right back and down.

- Try to adjust the rear view mirror.

- Realise you have to lean forward to do that and that when you sit back it isnt where you thought it was pointing

I actually think the trim inside (in black) is probably a lot more durable than the MK I fabia, however it isn't tactile and the stalks are not the nicest.

Depends what you like in a car really.

I'm not a fan, but then I'm comparing them to octys, leons and 1 series, which isn't fair.

I do think they have a lot of body roll however compared to things like the current corsa and fiesta. IMHO a car for older drivers or people who want to pootle around and have something that is well built rather than anything else.
