door locks - 1st post ever

Featured Replies

My 2001 Octavias driver door lock has the key turning 360* and nothing happens - when i put the key in the boot or other door the central locking works on all doors EXCEPT the drivers door.

Currently the drivers door is locked solid and wont open by the key or using inside handles..

I recon the first thing ill need to do is get the door panel off, not easy with the door locked. Any ideas??

Basically any ideas what i need in order to solve my problem?

and Will i need any additional tools to enable me to do the job myself??

THANKS IN ADVANCE

Is it a case where you can hear the locks working on the driver door, whether you use the kkey or the remote, but pulling the handle has no affect?...

There is 2 screws on the inside of the door.

When i delocked mine, on removing one of the screws it made the handle move, but do nothing and the barrel turn 360 degrees.

I think the screw has got lost down the door.

This might be of help.

Door panel removal is easy but you do need the door open to get it off there are two two torque screws down the edge that closes against the door pillar then another two on the opposite edge and three along the bottom underneath the glove/storage pocket you can't get to any of them with the door closed.

I would have suggested getting to the door catch pulley that attaches to the chrome door handle but I can't see how you could get to it without taking the door panel off.

Also if you have the electric window controls as I would imagine you do be careful when prizing this out, it is only clipped into place but it's plastic and prone to cracking/snapping under extreme pressure but you have to get this off as behind it are three large copper coloured screws that hold the door panel to the door also there is a small phillips screw behind the chrome door handle but to get to it you have to remove the plastic panel to the left of the door handle, on mine this panel is blank but on the passenger side it holds the window opening switch.

Once you have all the screws off and have disconnected the switches don't go gung ho and yank the door panel off as there is a small led wire that connects to the red LED next to the pop up door lock and also the wire connecting to the door light in the bottom right corner.

I appreciate this all seems like dumb advice if your door is locked shut but hopefully it will come in handy if you manage to get it open and decide to take the panel off to further investigate.

Hope you get it sorted.
