Extras... what do those buttons do?

Featured Replies

Hey guys, still out there searching for a good VRS!!

Anyhoo, just wondering... several i've looked at have got a spread of black plastic along the topside of the stereo that look as if they should be buttons for something? Has anyone got them all? If so, what do they do? Ones I've seen are ARG or somet... which I guess is traction control???

Any imput would rock.

Cheers,

~Tom

ESP, heated seats

2 are filled with heated seats, 1 ASR/ESP (traction control), 1 heated rear window and 1 is a light for passenger airbag deactivation I think.

Chris

if you had them all on a RHD car from left to right they would be as follows:

Somebody may correct me on the order not 100% on it

warning light for airbag (if possible to de-activate airbag in the model) think this one and the next one might be wrong way round

heated seat (passenger)

ESP - electronic stabilisation program

ASR - traction control

heated rear window

heated seat (driver)

AFAIK the only ones in a vRS are the ASR and the heated rear window

lol i took too long typing!

You only have one of either ASR or ESP....... (Mine has the ESP button & the mrs' has the ASR button). There is a blank in place even if you have all the available options.... heated seats, airbag etc.....

Yep, they are! ;):D

Is is possible to buy the switches to fit there, and wire them into something else, say footwell neons?

i believe you can buy the switches from a skoda parts centre

Or you can get them from a scrappie :D Someone wired a switch up to their tuning box to switch it on/off from the cabin. Very Knight-Rider-esque :D:rofl:

Chris

Just seems to be a waste with the blanking panels, reminds me of my dads mark 6 fiesta which he had 5 buttons like the vrs and only one worked which was the heated rear window, ruins the look of the car in my personal opinion.

Davy

I've wondered about adding a couple of new switches in there for other things.

Do you think its a real ball ache?

Steve

Nah the switches are pretty easy to pop in and out and there's a fair amount of space behind to run cables :D

Chris

The thing is though, any extra switch isn't going to look OEM.

It is annoying that there is always going to be a blank despite having all the options...

My Passat is the same, there is a 6th button that is always blank, looking on ETKA there is no switch to fill the space, and as its an odd shape you can't even use a duplicate of another switch for something. :(

I suppose if you wanted to fit something like a visual deterrant ie flashing led to beef up the alarm system it would be alright.

Davy

Don't have a visual image of the Fabia's row of buttons, but why not drill a hole in the last "blank" and use it for

- a control lamp

- a 12 V socket

- a USB socket (connected to the audio equipment)

or whatever?

Then at least it wouldn't be just empty space.

I h8 plastic blanks! On my old 306 I had one missing which was for dimming the lights on the dash! But the wires for the feature were behind it and all I did was get a switch from the scrappy!

Guess none of the features you get on fancy new cars are retrofittable.

Is the ESP definately better than just ASR??

sorry my mistake.

I think I might see about getting another switch or 2 then.
