Any warranty issues with supplying your own cambelt

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if there are any warranty issues with supplying your own cambelt kit to the garage, i.e. what are their liability if a belt breaks or does this lie with the belt manufacturer or myself?

Also are garages reluntant to carry out this service when you supply the parts especially cambelt.

The reason I'm asking is that, I'm looking at buying one off ebay or online store to save money. I have only owned my Fabia for couple of weeks and I am not 100% sure on the cambelt history. It's 5 years old .

Any advice please. Many thanks.

I know we dont like customers supplying there own stuff.

I'd be surprised if you find a franchised dealers that would fit self supplied parts. Many people get twitchy and break out into a sweat when CamBelt is mentioned.

That goes for anything with us.....

Thanks for replying. So is this all to do with warranty or just other reasons. How about independents?

Your warranty shouldn't be affected as I believe the cambelt isn't covered by it anyway - although you have to fit parts of equal or better quality as supplied at dealer level. Independent garages usually will let you supply your own parts, but fitted at your risk. If something goes wrong, expect the buck to be passed between the part's manufacturer, the company you buy it from and the garage that fitted it. HTH.

As a side track and something that may help POW - who is the OE parts manufacturer for the cambelt/tensioner on Fabia TDis? Is it Continental?

Just quickly, How much is a cambelt for a fabia vRS then? mine needs doing soon?

Ben
