Sound and Vision in my New Skoda Superb

Featured Replies

Hello everyone! what a great site you have here?

Well I just got my Skoda Superb Eligance today 2.0 TDI and I want to add a good sound system and a DVD player roof mounted in the back?

I have from my old model VW Passat:

  • High Quality speakers 6.5inch from the front 5.25 I think from the back
  • A great 4 channel amplifier

I have a new Rosen G8 DVD roof mounted player unfitted as yet.

Heres the question:

  • I think the speakers will fit the Superb no problem? any views here?
  • I dont think the SAT NAV has audio OUTPUTs to take the sound from the head unit to the amp and then back to the speaker? any views here?

If thats the case I've seen an AUX output harness. Connects 2,Car Audio integration specialists ref CT29VW02 for The RNS2 / MFD2 Navi for Skoda. IS THAT MY UNIT?

  • Will this lead fitt the new Skoda SAT nav?
  • Other options are using a product by JL Audio 'cleanSweep' JL Audio. Without the luxury of audio outputs on the head set, this devise takes the signal from the speaker cables and cleans the signal before sending it to the amp and back to the speakes. expensive about £300. any views here?

Finally before I get the DVD fitted as a stand alone DVD system with bluetooth head phones for back passangers.

  • Is it worth getting this also linked up to the SAT NAV head unit. It would be good to see DVD from the front and through the HI speakers some times?
  • Pressing the auxilary button I guess brings the picture through. Is that right?
  • Whats the quality like on the SAT NAV screen?
  • Can you watch this on the move?
  • Will the Car audio chaps no what adaptors if any I will need?

If anyone has already done something like this or has any views it would be much appreciated to learn from your successes and mistakes. I'll be getting someone to put this all in but I just need to get the right system set up the first time around. Head linning and door pannels will have to come off so I only want to do this once.

I'm based in Cambridge UK.

Hope you can help.

Andy

The Superb as far as I am aware only comes with the DX unit and not the MFD2 / RNSE units.........your wiring will need to work with the DX or MFD set up....

I have a PS2 Slimline wired into my DX Sat Nav through the AUX function on the back of the Sat Nav, the picture is excellent although the sound could be better, depending on how you wire this up you can get the DVD player to play on the move no problem....

I believe that my sound issue is to do with a wiring earth so I will be putting this right before long but IMHO it's better to have a OEM set up rather than other screens over the car.....

Isn't there anyway you can put the MFD2 in place of MFD. Maybe with some kind of conversion kit??

You'll want one of these MFD3's or should I say you NEED one!

I very much doubt it as the size of the unit is physically bigger.....you would need a new cage which would mean loosing all your buttons such as heated windscreen, heated seats, ESP, etc as they unit would take up this space....

Is the MFD2 not a double DIN unit then? Or have I missed the point...?

(Before you answer, bear in mind I've not been up long and this is my first cup of coffee ;))

It is double din mate but the shape of the unit is different, it's more circular and it means that the trim around the double din is sized differently.....

I am not saying that you couldn't hack the dash to bits to get it to fit but it certainly would be a serious DIY job to get it to fit....

The thing is, even if you could get it to physically fit (probably not that difficult), getting it to look like its meant to be there is a definite challenge.

I fitted an XCarLink MP3 player to my Symphony head unit so I get Aux input and retain the CD changer. I haven't investigated properly yet but I do have a slight but annoying buzz like motor interference audible between tracks. You say you have sound issues - anything like mine? I have checked the earthing of the head unit and MP3 player but not sure where to go next.

If I could sort this sound, I would recommend this as a very good way of getting aux input to a standard sound system.

Sounds similar to mine then mate.......is it effected by the engine as well?

I have fitted an inline filter but this has not helped the situation.....

The interference is not affected by the engine, with the ignition switched off it is still there. I will investigate an inline filter. I don't know what it is or where it goes - but I will soon. Any pointers?

The isolator I have fitted is as follows but as I stated it has done nothing to my set up, think I am going to change the earth points on the set up to see if that has an effect:

Maplin > Ground Loop Isolator

BTW, I work for Maplin, so if you guys want anything let me know and I'll see what I can do :)

Now he tells us.........LOL!!

For what it's worth

I had one of those eBay A/V adaptors on my MFD for a while, linked to a DVD player... when I went on holiday. I had interference as soon as I switched on the ignition; it then got worse with the engine running. After a bit of messing on, I found that putting a suppressor in the power feed to the A/V adaptor killed a lot of the noise, and then another suppressor in the power feed to the DVD player got rid of the rest.... I didn't touch the actual sound cables.

That's interesting mate, might have to give that a go.....
