I was thinking that - so ultimately they're making the same cars with different bodies and badges (which they already do now?)....

It seemed to me reading that article that although there will only be 4 base platforms there will actually be more variety and freedom than now for the manufacturers?

The Roomster is already a unique platform made of other bits and new bits and the Yeti will be the same.

I don't think that's a fair complaint - they don't seem to be talking about making cars with the individuality of the 107 and C1.

Look at the Mk4 golf platform and how different the golf was to the TT or the Leon.

With the Mk5 there's even more variety. A Golf appears very different from a Passat , a Touran , an Eos or a Tiguan , so there's no reason why we should be offered the same car with a few different badges
