Speedo Problems

Featured Replies

Hello all!

Not sure if this has happened to anyone else recenty.. But I've just had my '02 octavia elegance 1.9tdi serviced, and for some reason the speedo stopped working and the fuel gauge suddenly became super sensitive beeping at me as soon as i turn left. This all happened about a day after the service.:thumbdwn:

Part of the service is to power wash the engine bay so maybe its water ingress??

The only other thing i can think of is trailer electrics - that when i plugged in a trailer eletrical plug it's blown something somewhere. Checked all the fuses and they seem fine..

Any thoughts would be welcome.

Cheers,

Tony.

I can't see why your trailer wiring would have anything to do with it. Maybe the power wash of the engine bay did - speedo, but again the fuel levels are measured in the tank!

Might be worth having a word with your dealer and suggest all was fine till they serviced it and see if they have any suggestion / look at it FOC....

Not completely sure where the speedo signal come from on the manual (never had to look at one, it could be from the ABS system), if it is automatic there is a signal generator on top of the gearbox. It isn't really a good idea to wash the engine bay of a modern car as there are electronics in there, though the ECU is out of the way under the wiper scuttle panel.

Start pulling plugs in the engine bay and checking for water ingress also check for any damp wiring looms.

Unfortunately having your car serviced does no guarantee that it is going to be problem free in the future, though I would like to think that the dealer will check it to determine the cause of the problem and if it is down to them fix it free of charge.

Engine bay powerwashed!!!? WTF!!!???

Mine's 5 years and 74_000 miles old, and the engine bay's almost as new. Maybe slightly dusty, but nothing to justify anything more than a dusting.
