Slipping clutch, cost?

Featured Replies

Right clutch is slipping :thumbdwn:

car is remapped by star performance to 180 bhp (think) and didnt last long what with my lead right foot.

How much is this going to cost me?:(

Uprated Sachs was about £700 fitted IIRC?

Fooking hell! is there nothing a bit cheaper?

only need it to cover me up to 180bhp, dont really want to spend much on a clutch

Depends if your DMF is fooked too. Ive just got a new oem DMF and a sach performance clutch and presure plate and release bearing for under 700 ;) DOes mean ill have to fit it myself but thats coming along nicely

In what circumstances is the clutch slipping? i.e. what were gear and revs when you detected the slip?

How many miles has the car done, and how many of them while remapped?

Steve

we can do a sachs clutch kit for £130 including delivery

then as stated in one of my other posts around 4-5 hours labour

i pay £30 an hours so a cheap day all round for me, but most other places should be no more than £50 per hour so you should be looking at no more than £380 all in!

Thats all well and good for a standard car, but its pointless putting a standard clutch in a mapped car tbh. Another 30k and youll be back to square one ;)

I had the exact same problem when i remapped mine.

You will need to buy a heavy duty clutch as its not the 180BHP thats doing it in, its the 280+ Torque thats killed it!

I bit the bullet in the end and bought a sachs organic clutch from jabba. I searched the internet high and low but found no other substitutes apart from techniclutch on ebay, But after reading reviews on them i decided to stay well clear and id suggest you do the same!

When my mechanic did the clutch he found that the DMF was fooked big time and that the clutch still had loads of life in it, infact iv still got it and your welcome to it for the cost of postage if you want it, but as said you could just be delaying the inevitable.

Clutch and release bearing cost me about £490 and the Duel Mass Flywheel set me back another £250, then you got fitting on top of that! (about 5 hours)

So it could end up costing up to £900 if you need a new DMF as well:(

Its cr*p but thats the cost of having a remapped car. At least you will be able to do future mods and know your clutch can take the extra power:D

Good luck with it and let me no if you want my old clutch, its come off a 05 VRS which has done 20k miles and like i said it still got loads of life in it (if i had known i would have just replaced the DMF!)

Cheap tuning.....NOT.

No yuning is cheap!

clutch slips in 2nd and 3rd most notibly, basically all gears if you put the foot down before 2K revs. car goes nowhere but revs go up!

its okay if you wait to sink the foot after around 2.5K revs

car has done 40K and i have no idea when it was remapped

No offence intended, but you need to change your driving style. Flooring it before the turbo's built up boost is doing the car no favours, no matter if you have a standard or uprated clutch.

I'd recommend feeding power in gradually, after 2k.

nothing wrong with my driving style, owned a 306 hdi for 2 years before this one and it was mapped upto 132bhp and it could handle it, guess the VAG standard clutches just aint upto the job!

who want to 'feed' there throttle lol!

Just a suggestion mate...

You've no idea what torque the remap's putting out then??

  • Author

no i have no idea

was told it was a star performance switchable ecu, looked on there website and it only gave a bhp value, (180 bhp) ??

ive just had mine remaped m8, and if its anyhting like mine which is running the same bhp as yours you maybe kicking out round 320ft of tourqe,

im bricking it now £1000 4 a new clutch thats rediculous

It's simply not sensible to have that much torque running through a standard vRS clutch, if that's an accurate figure.

Who did your remap?

Steve

i got it remapped at jabba this week and it is dead on accurate got the print out to prove

Out of curiosity, what did you ask Jabba to do with the custom remap on your car?

Steve

nothing i just gave them it, and that the figures he came out with

i just gave them the car and thats wot they did,

if im going to need a clucth which one do you all recommend
