Solution for the stowage space below radio?

Featured Replies

Pardon my lamerism if this was discussed here before...

I'm not very found of the single din gaping hole below radio in Octavia and was toying with the idea of fitting VW Golf cup holder in there instead, but Golf's cup holder is only 1/2 din height, so I would also have to find some sort of blanking plate to go in there and since my L&K has fake wood on dash, it all becomes unneccessarily complicated.

However.

I was looking at interior pictures of Skoda Superb and what do I see? Same Symphony stereo, same double din hole, but it has very nice cubby and it looks like it would fit without any problems to Octavia, unless it's too deep to fit, but I can't think why it would be. Looks like a perfect place to fit ipod adapter too.

What do you think guys?

I put tape cassettes in there! I also wish that the heater controls were in there instead of down in the footwell!

You can get a cup holder that fits the space perfectly, its not the golf 4 one, but a VW polo one. It needs a couple of bits of plastic trimming, but you dont see the trim when fitted.

I second that!

Slightly off topic, but I noticed recently that one of the VAG-group cars has the climatronic panel mounted in a din size hole, with some sort of plastic adaptor around it. I think it could have been a Passat.... I wonder if it would be possible to use one of these adaptors to raise the climatronic pannel in the Octy....

It would leave a gap where the pannel is now, but I guess that could be blanked easily enough.

What do you think guys?

Cant see why not, the drawer is only pushed into place (held in by the radio by the looks of it.)

You would need to drill a hole in the top rear of the drawer to get an iPod cable in, otherwise no problems

Mmmm... Passat->Octavia climatronix looks very plausible. I think one would need the whole unit from Passat, as it's integrated into DIN surround, but it's almost definitely 1xDIN size, as Passat owners swap them around with radios as well:

if any body whats to get rid of there cubbyhole send it to me

Nope, the trim is a separate part. Part number is 1J0 907 074 H

I reckon Skoda or Meter manufacturers know that Octavias are good for taxis because my meter fits exactly to size in the space below the stereo after taking out the storage comp.

But why do these companies make ugly illuminating taxi meters :thumbdwn:

Not really, the storage compartment is a std single DIN size.

Otherwise the double DIN satnav systems wouldn't fit.

Talking about which - does anyone know where I can find double din cage? I want to test something before fitting Superb shelf in there and I can't find double din cages anywhere. Searched ebay, maplins, nothing. Found a kit online but it was ridiculous price - £39 for a cage and screw.

An audio speciaslist could probably help you out... or you could find a double-din unit and contact the manufacturer to buy just the cage as a spare part.
