Changing headlamp bulbs on a Fabia

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Firstly hello to fellow Skoda owners! I must admit, I dont own my 2004 Fabia vRS, I lease it.. by time it goes back I will have had it 4 and a half years... i like it that much I didnt want the lease company to have it back after 3 years!

I'd noticed people had asked this question on the forums.. but i dont think it was answered fully.....

How do you change the headlamp bulbs on a Fabia?! Does anyone have link to instructions or diagrams, or is it self-explanatory, albeit fiddly?

Many thanks,

Darren

It should be detailed in the handbook, but you basically reach down, unhook the rubber backing and then reach in and squeeze the clips to release the bulbs - there is main beam, dipped beam, sidelight and indicator in the cluster. The sidelight bulbs tend to get quite wedged, but replacing the others isn't too bad (I used to remove the battery covers to get more room on the passenger side).

If you have xenons, I'd get your dealer to do it

As above - if they are Halogen lamps make sure you dont touch the glass at all, as this apparently shortens the bulb life. Had to replace one of mine the other week and a very quick and simple job - the backing on mine though was plastic with a rubber seal, but then mines not the vRS version though

I know that halfords isn't very well thought of, and TBH, I avoid myself if I can help it, but their "extreme" range of bulbs is currently BOGOF at the mo.......

Edit: I think it was extreme. The plus 50% ones anyway

not easy...

changed for some LED sidelights today.

changing dipped is a complete ball ache

but their "extreme" range of bulbs is currently BOGOF

I saw them in there the other day. Are they any good through? How do you reckon they compare with philips + 50%

I've not a clue if they're any good or not, but I bought them all the same. I don't go in for the top brand must have uber performance techno junk. 50% is 50%!

They're bulbs. They produce light. That'll do for me.

Sorry, that wasn't a rant at anyone, I'm just a bit vexed that a bulb has gone, and I need to change it and I've just seen Ultra Joel describe the job as a "ball ache" Wish I hadn't looked now!!!:mad::mad:

It really isn't that bad!!!! :D

Chris

Its not hard, if I can do it, anyone can. Just take your time and be careful what you move, just like you would do on any other car.

With the exception of the Mondeo which is the single most easy car I've ever changed the bulbs on!:rofl:

Chris

OK, Happy again now.

I didn't have mine long enough to wash it, let alone change a bulb on it

It's do-able

but still a ballache

Job done. 15 mins for both sides. 98% of skin on back of hands still in place. 2% still under the bonnet.

:):):)

how are you finding these?

i had the quad LED bulbs, they lasted a whole two weeks before they started strobing and eventually stopped working, they got replaced with some single LED bulbs, 3 months later and exactly the same issue happened.

Just picked up a pair of these £20.00

Driver's side was a doddle to fit

Passenger side was a pig. Had to remove part of the battery cover to get the back off the headlamp.

Looking good now though.
