90mph police chief's driving ban

Featured Replies

OUt of interest do the police check with the insurance companies or with the DVLA database ,because if it is the DVLA i am in trouble as it is consistently wrong, insisting that I dont have insurance when i do .The DVLA say it is because i have just re insured (insurance april tax november) .This has now happened with 3 insurance companies .

The ANPR (Automatin Numberrplate Recognition) sysytem the Police etc are introducing is linked to the DVLA database so if you pass one of their units it will flag up that you are not insured. I would give the DVLA a suitable brollocking & always carry proof of insurance together with your insurance companies contact details. If stopped you have proof of insurance & also a way the officer could call the Insurance co direct for verification.

Like all wonderful systems introduced by the Government its not exactly reliable, buy a car on e-bay, pay cash, dont change the log book, whoopee licence to do what you want. Its also not linked to foreign countries so all the migrants (scroungers) can drive around un insured, without tax & speed, its just the brits who get a kicking by their own government, of course its not about raising money.

If as they say 1 in 10 cars are not insured why the duck cant they catch a few

Say 1 in 4 have a car, population is 60 million, thats 15 million cars, 1.5 million not insured, catch them & fine each £100, thats a mere £150,000,000 raised, also ban them for 12 months, thats congestion sorted for a year

That's definitely wrong.

You are asked if you've had any convictions in the past five years - they may have been removed for totting up purposes , but you have had them and if you lie that's invalidated your insurance

Yes I know it's wrong, My points are all declared but then I've never had a ban.

It's never been an issue though, I know lots of drivers who have been banned then only tell the insurers about the ban, and dont mention the points from the previous 5 years, I'm not sure how it works to be honest but I think the DVLA can only confirm current points and the insurers rely on your honesty for declaring the last 5 years, I dont see how an insurer could use points older than 3 years against you anyway, as that is a spent conviction and they cant use it against you.

Again, this is not something I have ever done, I just know lots of drivers who do, none of who'm have ever had a problem when claiming.

Agreed

With Insurance companies & the Police sharing info these days you will be found out if you dont declare so your a mug if you think you can get away with it.

There was a prog recently on the BBC when a police officer checked with an Insurance co from the roadside what the person had put on their decleration & they were found to have lied, thats also an offence

When you make any claim Insurance companies these days check for non decleration etc before paying out & will certainly ask to see your licence so if you have points declare them, I think Im correct in saying bans are also noted on your licence

My wife is very high up in a large ins co, and in her words, the insurers only check if they suspect something is wrong, if they are shown a clean licence then that is usually enough, after all, your not lieing if you dont have points? the only issue is with the last 5 years question.

Again, I have not done any of this, I've never been banned and I declare my points, this is just my experience of some of my collegues activities.
