Vw Rcd 510

Featured Replies

I understand this is the same stereo as the MFD3 touch-screen but without the SatNAV.

If they start introducing this stereo to the Octavia and new Superb it looks like it's going to be a nice upgrade to my current Dance (nice though it is) :)

Right I've confirmed myself that the 510 unit is visually identical to the MFD3.

It has the same touchscreen technology but does not include the 30gb harddisc, SD slot or SatNAV. So it will be considerably cheaper to purchase. To give you a better idea to upgrade to this unit on the S model of the Tiguan will cost between £200/£300.

that's not bad at all!

Has anyone find more info about this RCD-510? Is there Skoda version available?

There will be for the new Superb. I think it's called Bolero on Skoda catalog.

It actually does contain SD&MMC card reader and supports MP3 and WMA formats. Ok, atleast the Skoda version does. :)

Skoda will introduce 4 new radio's in the new superb. Swing, Bolero, Amundsen and Columbus. Well, Columbus is already introduced yes, but the 3 other radios are still coming.

Bolero, Amundsen and Columbus will have touchscreen technology, but Amundsen and Columbus are the only ones which have SatNav systems integrated.

Oh that sounds rather interesting :D

Interesting. When you go into the hidden menu's of the Columbus there is DAB listed but little is known about it yet - It could be possible the HW is already in there.

Interestingly one has appeared on eBay.

Volkswagen VW RCD 510 DAB Radio 6CD MP3 RCD510 300 500 on eBay, also Volkswagen, CD Headunits MP3 Players, In-Car Entertainment GPS, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 19-May-08 22:52:43 BST)

What I find most interesting is that the RCD510 apparently (according to this advert) sports a 6 disc cd changer inside and also DAB radio. Pity that the RNS510 doesn't do DAB at the moment :(

Uuuh...Pretty expensive at the moment.

By the way it's possible that Skoda will drop the Stream and Audience radios from Octavia line. They'll be replaced with the same Swing and Bolero radios as in new Superb.

Or that's my speculation. I'm speculating it this way because according to TallioN's post in VWNAVI, the PDC and climatronic control units are upgraded to support on-screen display to the new radio models from 08.2008 onwards.

Liking the look of the Bolero very much indeed, as I already have a TomTom. If its substantially cheaper than the Columbus, and has all the other features except satnav, then one is on my shopping list for certain!!!

Well it'd be nice if DAB could be unlocked or easily enabled on the new MFD units.

Stu: it mentions "Ant1" in relation to DAB, perhaps with only the one antenna DAB is disabled, or it needs a DAB ant to work.

Their advert mentions a JVC DAB ant like this: Car Audio Direct - JVC HAL1 DAB Aerial - Accessory I wonder what would happen if that was plugged into the spare ant socket?

A quick google for DAB and RNS510 turns up some Geman pages where they talk about some VAG DAB tunerbox for the RNS510, but it's hard to tell if this is current or old rumors.

Been thinking about it today it is possible that it's not atually fitted with the HW.

Well would be great to have DAB... what would the second aerail connector be for otherwise.. but as you say the hardware may not be there .. but on the otherhand maybe it is... as the menu option is there...anyone willing to try it connected to an antenna..?

There are 3 connectrson the DAB unit. I suspect the third is for DAB, not the second.

The second antenna on the Columbus is Diversity.

Iwould be pretty sure that it is not pre-fitted with a DAB receiver as these are still relatively expensive!

VW offer DAB on both the RCD510 and the Sat Nav version in Touran, Passat and Golf and I believe it is an additional module - of course it also requires a specific DAB antenna. Cost for DAB option is £150.

VW certainly on Golf and Touran use "in screen" antenna for the AM/FM function, but when fitted with DAB option I believe a beesting/sportflex type antenna is fitted - this would make sense as DAB signal strength and coverage is much lower than FM.

Although you can order the RCD510 with a DAB receiver in a VW, you cannot order the RNS510 with a DAB receiver, so it is very interesting that DAB appears in the menu system on the RNS510.

VW also have this one, which is the RCD 310 iirc.

Been searching all over the place (this site and others) and cant find anywhere to buy the Bolero. Is it just me? I'm losing the will to live now so hoping someone on here might have some kind of idea?

You can always try your nearest dealer. But be prepared to pay some premium money for it.

The VW equivalent RCD510 seems to be around £600 on eBay, so I presume the dealer price is atleast double that amount.
