A couple of anoying problems!!

Featured Replies

Right chaps,

I have 2 problems with my 2002 vrs, it has 45k on the clock.

1, When I start the car, the revs sit at 1300rpm for approximately a minute, if I set off before the revs drop, it runs really lumpy and almost Kangaroos down the street!:eek::eek:

I have also noticed that the recirc. pump that always used to run for that first minute does not always run!:confused:

2, Completely unrelated but.......... when the fuel guage gets to approximately a quarter full and I restart the car it puts the warning light on and says there is nothing left! If I then turn off the car and restart it the guage goes back to a quarter full and shows 100 miles range (no warning light!}

Any help with these two problems would be great as at the moment I dont run the tank bellow half and sit on the drive until the revs settle to 900rpm:thumbdwn:

Thanks in advance

Tom

Number one sounds like the problems described in the sticky thread, "Splutter is doing my head in". I have the same problem, as do several others. I'm not aware of any solutions yet.

I have fault number 1, I have also noticed that the air pump doesnt always cut in... just noticed that the other day.

I looked into it but since I let it idle for a minute or so first thing on a morning anyway, It doesn't worry me too much so I left it.

On problem 1, I had something similar:

On problem 2, I had a problem with the guage not showing "full" when I had filled up the tank. I got the dealer to check it all and I think they corrected the float/meter in the tank and then it behaved. Might be worth asking a dealer to do that. I know they had to get to the sensor in the fuel tank (I believe access is a black circular panel under the right-hand rear seat. Don't do it yourself though.) and my car stank of fuel for a few days after, but they fixed the problem. Can't tell if you are describing a guage that behaves but a driver information system that is getting the distance estimate wrong. I guess the distance estimate is based on your mpg. Not sure.

Had a look at the stickey at the top regarding the splutter, will start working through the list of possible cures, just wanted to bottom it before it goes for a remap in the new year:thumbup:

It is definately a guage fault so will speak to a dealer about the float switch.

Thanks for the replies
