Possibly odd MFD2 question

Featured Replies

While on a jaunt in germany this past week my MFD2 suddenly displayed traffic jams ahead (and there were) and when they cleared as they dissapeared, this happened several times. Now i live in North wales and traffic jams dont normally happen so i have never seen this before.

Now does the MFD2 have a facility to pick this info up from radio or gps or something or was it just a coincidence?? If it does, i never knew it was able to do this!!

It picks it up via TMC which is embedded within Classic FM in the UK (there are other TMC enabled FM radio stations, too). It's essentially a transparent to the listener signalling system which passes instructions to your Sat Nav.

You need to have a disk installed that allows you to use TMC, they usually cost a bit more than the standard disks.

Dave.

i get the impression that you dont have to buy a more expensive tmc enabled disk for mainland europe. is tmc state subsidised in france, germany etc?

In the Uk the MFD2 TMC only operates on Motorways.

You are going to have to tell me how to get this working because my sat nav didn't tell me about the huge delay on the M1 on saturday, is it on by default?

Do you have a TMC enabled disc?

The standard UK MFD2 disc will not have TMC enabled, that would require a different, more expensive disc to make it work.

When i got back to the UK it did work on the M62 as well!! Dont know how to turn it off but TMC displays in the bottom right corner of the map screen if its on.

Sounds like I don't have the right disc, didn't know there was different types just areas covered, never mind.

If I say I want one VRStu will be along in a flash offering me one at a discount price, I have to stay away from him he is causing me financial trouble.:P

no motorways in north wales to test it on, although plenty of jams on the A55 at mo
