new bulbs and wipers

Featured Replies

Hello,

Off to the Lake District tomorrow for the week so I decided to treat my vrs to some news bulbs and wipers today.

Got some Halfords super brillance H7's for dipped and some rally 130w H3's for the main beam (they also had the 100w ones in stock but not much of a price difference)

Noticed on the back of the H3's is says to check wiring and switches, needs to be a minimum of 20 amps for 100w bulbs at 12v

Also got some bosch wipers. Took the old ones off then couldn't remember which way round the plasic thing on the drivers wipers goes - above the wiper or below ?!

I would watch it with the 130w bulbs.

Don`t know with the rules in England, but here in DK, only 55-60W bulbs are allowed.

Some use 100w bulbs, but it can really make a mess with the elctrical system because of the extra amps they draw, but also melt the headligt because of the extra heat they produce.

I wouldn`t use 130w bulbs in mine - maybe 100w, but i would draw on other peoples knowledge about this, as i wouldn`t want any damage.

Let us know how you get on with the 130W ones - I only run 100W because I was scared by the reasons outlined above :D Never had any problems with my 100W's though in about 80k miles of use!

I've packed the 55w bulbs just incase I need to change them back! will keep an eye on the wiring temperature.

Legally I think I will be okay, nobodies really going to know I've got 130w full beam bulbs and the brillance dipped beams are the standard 55w same as originals.

I run 130w halfords rallye bulbs in mine. Had them in 4 months now. No probs so far. They really are fantastic. Got Philips Extremes +80% (55w so still legal) too. I think it a great combination (Better than Xenons?;)) As you say the 130s are only on for main so while technically they don't comply, you are unlikely to have problems.

JamesR-The plastic bit on the wipers (the spoiler!) is at the bottom of the blade. If you put it on with the spoiler up, the blade could fly off in the wind! :)

Regarding 130W bulbs - thought these were only legal for off-road use. Mainly sell +30s (in either Phillips or Jahn) where I work, and no complaints with them at all. Had the Phillips ones fitted on my old 190E (sadly sold this year) and they were superb. HTH.

BTW Enjoy yourself up in the lakes - ran in my Gold 1.9Tdi (only had 300 miles on the clock) up there a few years back. Great fun but watch out for them deer & sheep! :D

 Whoops - Double posted

thats correct ;)

Ideal for the Lake District then - one false turn of the steering wheel & you can seriously find yourself off-road, usually heading down-hill at a rate of knots! :D Either that or embedded in a stone wall. Will have to take the furby up there soon.

Realised I made a typo on the previous post. For Gold TDi read Golf TDi (Mk4)! Had the old 125bhp lump in that one with a six-speed box. Company car, sorely missed! Used to get nearly 650 miles to a tank of fuel although it was practically all motorway driving. Sorry to go off topic.....
