NEW Fabia or Octavia

Featured Replies

iv got a 1.4 fabia sport had it from 05 new. Great car but i want more power. So on 1 side im thinking new fabia 1.6 but then thinking about the octavia 1.8T. is the 1.6 105hp engine a twincam motor or single cam? im so mixed up about what to get. And i cant wait the expected 3years for the new fab vrs.

i need some help:confused:

Octy 2.0 is being replaced by a 1.8T

I had a 1.6 Fabia for a few days and didn't think it was particularly quick, plus it drank fuel like nobodies business

go for the new fabia sport with the same 1.6i as the octy!

its due out early next year and ive got one coming for demo end of jan iirc!

you can also have a 1.9tdi 105bhp engine too. so potentially get the sportwith ESP option, whack the eibach springs on it and a tuning box and youve got yourself a new shape "Vrs" ;)

So with a few mods ie computer and filter. what power could i get from the 1.6? Do alot of people chip N/A engines? and who could do it?

not sure tbh, ive never seen a 1.6 NA chipped. but most people say that skoda quoted power outputs are normally below what most engines actually produce. but a good remap would certainly make it interesting. ive only really ever heard of the TDI's getting chipped up as its easily to get good results

If you don't mind diesel, I'd go for the 80 BHP 1.4 TDI. I have driven this and it feels much brisker than both the 1.4 and 1.6 petrols. It's a three cylinder engine though and because of the imbalance is a little hesitant at low revs. Once up and running though it is a wonderful little motor, revs freely and sounds great. You should get 60 mpg with a light foot as well although this engine begs you to push it to hear that lovely off beat growl. Drive one tough as you will either love it or hate it.I had a Fabia 2 1.4 16v as a courtesy car recently and it was gutless and the throttle response was awful.

Good luck with your choice.

If you want to chip the car (bearing in mind you'll invalidate the warranty if you do!!) I'd go for the 1.9 TDi Sport. It is possible to chip N/A petrol engines , but its really a waste of time and money , as gains will be at most 4 to 5 bhp.

the 1.6 isn't bad, but as has been said, it's not terribly good with the fuel, and you need to rev it

if you want performance and a new fabia get the derv and map it,you will be looking at 140bhp ish and a good wedge of torque:thumbup:don't bother mapping n/a petrols because it just isn't worth it in most cases

Thanks for the replys, iv been looking around at skodas cousin the seat leon! And im quite liking the look of it plus side to that is you can get a 1.4 petrol sport with 125ps dont now the torque figures but its also cheaper than the fabia, and they also do a 2.0 deisel sport with 140ps for almost the same money! Would the 1.4 sport leon be a four cylinder 16v?

If you do go for the Leon the 1.4 you've mentioned is the engine I would get. It's the 1.4TSI this is the one with turbo & super chargers on it! It was 1st introduced in 140/170hp versions on the Golf GT & has slowly been making it's way around now also in a 120-125hp model in the rest of the PQ35 or A5 platformed cars like the(GolfV/Golf-Plus/Touran/LeonII/OctaviaII/Tiguan/JettaV/A3II/Altea/ToledoIII/TTII) Now when they just get this in the PQ25(Fabia/Ibiza/Polo) platformed cars!!!

Ahh & if it helps any I'm in nearly the same boat as you as I'm driving a 1.4100hp 16V Ibiza Sport your current cars cousin:huep:

Skisbp get the seat:thumbup:

The only bad thing about Seat is that there forum is dead quiet!

That aside i made up my mind and my GF likes it so I am definatly going to go for a seat this time, nicer looking inside and out but im still in 2 minds of what engine to get. You know when youv read a few reviews it hypes it up in your head. Iv said to myself the cupra is out the price range for me, so i chose the 1.4 TSI but then the Seat FR is calling out to me. 2.0 TSI 200ps/ TDI 170ps. The price is £2000 more than the 1.4 but alot more power. Just thinking, is it worth getting the 1.4 125ps and spending buckets trying to get more power or just buy the power!?

Ha,

Was actually leaning towards the Fabia Estate Sport When they put the 1.4TSI in it...

Keep in mind the Sport/Sport-Up models will almost definitely prove the better value overall. As it did in your Fabia, VW-Group works that way across their brands. Plus depending on your insurance company you'll find that many will only consider a Sport model a styling package as opposed to FR/Cupra/VRS & so forth which often get classified for much riskier clientele...

My suggestion if you'd like another engine option is to test drive both the Sport-Up 1.4TSI & the 1.8TfSI. [Left the "f" uncapped as VW in their Wisdom have decided to confuse the matter by calling their newest generation of Turbo FSI units"tsi's" as well even though this designation properly belongs only to the Turbo+Super units as of now only the 1.4TSI is yet on the market!!!:soapbox:] Then do yourself a favor & test drive the Golf GT 1.4TSI-170hp. Still following? Good-Now all you need is a chip for your new 1.4TSI-125hp Leon Sport-Up & you'll have more power than you were looking for...:trampolin

Good points made there Skisbp. I did find it quite bizarre that VW had a 1.4 TSI pushing 170hp, then Seat with the equivalent but only with 125hp, but thats still a whole 50hp over my now 75hp fabia. So what are the chances of getting a chip for the 1.4 seat? Who does them and at what costs? Does chipping void warranty on new cars?

Chipping: As many others have/will inform you. The most worthwhile chipping can only be done on an engine, that takes advantage of some form of induction other than NA {NA=Natural Aspiration/T=Turbocharger/S=Supercharger also Stratification/I=Injection(fuel)/[D=Diesel/CR=CommonRail]}. With that understood it's easy to understand the popularity of the 1.9TDI & 1.8T20V in varying power displacements over the years. As these wonderful powerplants are aging & newer emissions requirements are coming into effect... VW-Group have managed to stay ahead of the times with their newer 2.0Tfsi & 2.0TDI units. Nothing against those technological masterpieces. But the 1.8TfSI & 1.4TSI are both newer to market as well as lighter options. Providing for a more balanced automobile!!! As far as currently getting a chip goes for either of these 2 powerplants patience would be advised. Either Revo or CustomCode both make excellent options for UK based enthusiasts. Yet a quick look at their web-sites show they're still perfecting these ReMaps. While there are many other tuners & a googleing may find you someone currently offering a chip. Power gains of 15%-35% can reasonably be expectated, from [1.4TSI-120/125+{140-160}, 1.4TSI-140+{165-185}, 1.4TSI-170+{195-225}, 1.8TfSI-160+{190-215}]. Higher outputs being achieved with the addition of other mods such as Exhaust, Intake, Intercoolers...

Enough blabber I recommend if you'd like/need to get a new ride now go with one of these 2 options. Drive it 3-6 months giving you time to run in the engine. Will still have 50-100% more juice than before... Then when these remaps have been perfected take them out for a spin:rice:! If you can still wait more then you could expect to pay less than the going 500quid.

Warranties are more subjective than Void/Invalidate & so forth. Not living in the UK if you couldn't pick-out from my English. It would be unreasonable to go on my view alone. The most important is to find a Tuner-Friendly dealer. Then make sure that the chip you get is switchable{SPS}. Keep in mind even Seat-Spain offers a chip remap for certain models. So this is mainly an issue of willingness not reliability...
