Some people should be shot (rear bumper q)

Featured Replies

Well, some nice fellow has decided to drive into my bumper at the rear quarter and leave me a few nice deep gouges and a half inch gap between the rear bumper and body panel. Nice that theres no note or anything too.

Basically, I know you need to take out the lights, but how much of an effort is it to re-set the bumper so it's not hanging off anymore. And do you think something's likely broken that'll stop me doing it? (clips/mounting etc.)

I can't afford to 'fix' it. It'll need, at least, a complete rub down, primer and respray. And it's not worth the hike in insurance to do it through them. But if I can put it back in place and have it stay there - it'll do 'til I have some cash spare. I know it's around 500 quid for a completely new bumper from Skoda sprayed and all. But if nothings broken I should be able to half that by just getting it resprayed on the car, right?

Some people really should just be shot.

Ouch, my commiserations. At least the bloke who ran into me was identifiable.

Have a look on Stu's website for fitting the "parking distance control" sensors (no irony intended). He shows how to remove the bumper and what's underneath.

NOTE: A minion/helper is mentioned who is required to give the bumper "a firm tug".

Erm go to a body shop and they will repair yours for well under half that price.

I've already been looking, found some reasonable quotes for just spraying it, but having had a proper look after work it looks like the bumper is actually broken at the corner (almost snapped), and although I couldn't get it off before it got dark, it looks like the clips where the 'seam' to the rear quarter is are totally ballsed. I'm hoping, but not sure, that it's an easy 'fix' for a bodyshop.

Most decent body shops have a tool that heats the bumper where it is cracked and injects heated plastic into the crack. They then sand this back and can paint the bumper.

Even if they have to replace the whole item I'd still bet on it being a lot cheaper than the skoda garage. That plus if you are paying cash rather than insurance you can get better prices.

Here's hoping. Just a little narked it'd be a lot cheaper if only other people could drive. OR had a conscience.

Cheers,

Try a breakers yard for a replacement, may even have your colour if your lucky.

Tried a few a while back when I wanted to do something with the rear bumper. You don't get many vRS's in that haven't cocked the bumpers themselves :(

There's one on eBay which I may try for, if repair is impossible/expensive on mine. No one buy it!
