Mongrel is in bits

Featured Replies

Enjoying myself today. (This is Jason by the way... ;))

Started working on the mongrel at 11, and so far including lunch, the subframe has been dropped complete and the driveshafts are out - left in the hubs as they're not in the way. Box is ready to drop, and I reckon new one will be in by the end of the day.

Photos are being taken along, which will follow in a couple of days.

Finally! gonna be extremely interesting to hear how this upgrade meshes with the engine power.

Looking fwd to the pics! (oh and say hi to Alex as well matey please).

Cheers

Bas (in Abu Dhabi atm)

Box is out. Old clutch is out too - boy it was in a bad way. Rivets very loose, clutch plate pretty bad. You can tell it's been slipping....

Oddest thing is I noticed a SACHS stamp on the housing.... I assume just the housing might be Sach,

Post up some pics matey, and ill try to tell you what i think of the clutch. What clutch was supposed to be in it?

why wouldn't these mods work perfectly with the other ones Bas?

its only an LSD and a new clutch :D

they won't affect anything like the turbo etc :)

hope it goes well Jas, better than my clutch change did although yours is far less complicated

JBS Kevlar clutch - 400 lb/ft organic jobby. I will get pics up of the old clutch plate. If it WAS a sachs clutch all along, then that's mighty odd.

Well im sure i have seen a previous picture of one of there kevlar clutches and it had a red pressure plate with a paddle type plate?

If so then i have absolutly no idea why the f*ck they have painted the cover for because they dont leave the factory like that. Im possibly guessing they have used maybe a standard cover with an uprated plate. Did the cover and plate have any part numbers on them? if so tell me them and ill tell you for sure then what it is.

These are the pics you might be interested Mr Sachs.;)

Other pics of todays work are going in a new thread. :)

um, bengie - you maybe misunderstood my point - these upgrades will be simply brill in getting the mongrel's power down to the rubber - how much better the car will be is th point.

Whatever it is, it's amazing! Just like the mongrel & Jason, I love it! I love everything!

WTF. why the hell have they painted the clutch for? for a start it looks absolutly ****e IMHO. You get any numbers off the plate or cover?

Plate certanly looks like a paddle type race clutch. Part no.'s off the cover will determin if its uprated or not...... if its got 88 3182 999 at the begining of it then 3 other digits on the end then yes its an uprated cover. But even still, im still not sure the Sachs paddle clutch is rated to 400 lbft torque..... ill look into it for you though ;)

thats for the cover and plate.

Pictures of the plate below show that the plate in this kit is out of something else as our ones are all 4 puck paddles, not multi paddle like the one you have.

Thanks. I'll be able to find part numbers on Monday I guess - Clutch is in the box my spec one arrived in.

Thats the uprated cover how they leave the factory ;)

Looks remarkably similar.... At least not in colour...:D

but thats what all pressure plates look like isn't it?

Yep it will look exactly like a standard pressure plate, the difference being in the clamp load on the pressure plate itself. Obviously the uprated one will have a high clamp load which will mean it will beable to cope with hight torque figures than the standard one.

The only way i can tell is with numbers off the old unit matey :D
