Anyone else feeling cynical?

Philips’ 75-metre light tunnel at its plant in Aachen, Germany, allowed us to measure beams accurately, and see the patterns displayed on a simulated road.

tbh I hadn't read it. My headlight bulbs came with my car and as most of my driving is in well lit areas, I don't get these people who quibble over the slightest difference in bulb brightness.

Oiiii seee you is no country bumpkin, like see!

Finally, someone that agrees with me on aftermarket bulbs! :D

The only time I've been satisfied with a lighting upgrade was when I fitted an HID kit a couple of years ago.

All "performance" bulbs I've had have been much of a muchness and certainly not worth the effort people seem to put into choosing them.

Coincidence? lol

The Test

Philips’ 75-metre light tunnel at its plant in Aachen, Germany, allowed us to measure beams accurately, and see the patterns displayed on a simulated road.

Verdict

Head and shoulders above the rest in this test was the Philips X-treme Power, which put in a performance no rival bulb could come near.

However, if you want to spend less than £30, go for the Philips Premium.

I'll concede that my Philips bluevision parking lights (not sidelights) are a vast improvement on the OE bulbs but they were free with my poncey indicators

I'll also concede that aftermarket headlight bulbs may be better - I've never tried them - but I don't see any point shelling out on them until the ones I've got are fubar'd.

Now if someone can help me choose new tyres....

You aren't implying the tests were slanted in Philips' favour thanks to using their testing facility per chance?? ;)

"Thanks for letting us use your facility Mr Philips. Oh and by the way, your bulbs are crap!

I was going to say that i never believed the silverstars were any worse than the phillips vision plus and they were a darn sight cheaper.

I have found some of the uprated bulbs carp, as they don't last well but otherwise it's more light.

I have the Philips VisionPlus in the Superb and they are a big improvement on the std bulbs VAG fit.

Why don't people who fit the blue bulbs realize this:

"Just bear in mind the trendy blue coating has an adverse effect on bulb performance. "

Oh sorry, they buy them so they look good
