considering MFD2

Featured Replies

I am seriously thinking about fitting the MFD2 unit to my Octy ambiente, but I have a few questions. How good is the sat nav on the MFD2 compared to say a tomtom? I have seen a few of these units on ebay, but there are various versions, which one is the best to go for? There appear to be lots of sellers from Eastern Europe on ebay, I would be a bit wary of buying from these guys but has anyone had any dealings with these people? Thanks

Try a search as the MFD2 has been covered to death on here, but in answer to the second part of you question about the ebay sellers from Eastern Europe most of them seem to be fine but there is the disadvantage of arranging payment through bank transfer which is a bit daunting but has worked out OK for me (twice now :))

This may come in handy for reference too

The MFD2 is a great little unit that will fully integrate into your dashboard. It isn't a TomTom by any stretch of imagination.

That's not to say that it isn't as good, in some respects it's better but it just isn't as up to date as TT is these days.

One thing to watch is the laser unit in the MFD2 weakening meaning it can have trouble reading the latest copy protected navigation discs (early ones without are fine including the 'test cdr' your unit will prob. be shipped with). Mine now suffers from this and asking around it appears to be a known problem and the only solution is a return to VAG for repair so guess that will = ££££ :(
