More Warning Lights

Featured Replies

This is getting a bit tedious now!

I went to Birmingham at the weekend (approx 150 miles each way)

On the way home the EPC Fault light came on?

The car drove fine all the way back but I was taking it easy

I wasn't driving overly fast either way or driving the car hard but it was the 1st time since fitting the DragonBox that it had been on the motorway.

The manual says its emissions and that the engine management has gone into a safe mode but it still pulls just the same (i'm assuming because the dragons overruling it!)

Driving the car this morning, for the 1st 10 mins of the journey it was fine then the light came on again so i'm getting narked now!

Anyone any ideas?

Is it something simple like I need a new filter (still on standard with PD160 intake) or do I need to get it into a garage.

From what I can tell from inside its not smoking/ throwing black from the exhaust

I'm about fed up if this car now - all it seems to do is tell me there's stuff wrong with it!!!

Is there a setting on the box where it can be turned down or are they just on the Tune it boxes?

If anything sell the box and put it towards a remap. I've been a bit weary about those boxes.

Yeah there is - its on 6 of 7 so might turn it down but dont really want to if I can!

Could my sensor in the exhaust be clogged?

it has done 62k now?!

Steve

It could be the tuning box causing the problems, I would remove it for a bit and see how it goes. If you need to visit the dealer, then remove it anyhow.

Agree with mannyo - tuning boxes have been known to go faulty so take off the box and see if the problem still occurs. If it doesn't drop Dragon a query and they should replace the box FOC.

May also be worth finding someone local to you with VAG-COM who can do a fault scan for you (just in case it's something completely different).

Chris

Had a tuning box send an relatives old car into Christmas tree mode (eg warning lights)

Had to turn the thing down a few settings as it was causing over fuelling. Was fine after that.

I'd say get it off and get the fault code cleared by a friendly local :)

no sensors fitted to the exhaust

is that setting 6/7 on a seven setting Dragon box or a fourteen setting one ?

you could have a partially blocked Catalyst , causing excess back pressure or even sticking VNT on the turbo , but i would expect there to a lack of power for both these faults

Its a 7 setting one and its on 6.

I'll take it off, take it to a mechanic and get them to clear all/ any fault codes then put it back on but turned down to 5.

If it comes on again i'll email Dragin and see what they say!

If I bought the box second hand will they still send me a replacement?

I believe the box carries a 5-year warranty, but I don't know where I got that from. Did the person you bought it from give you a copy of any paperwork from when they bought it?

Nope nothing!

I will email them and just say I lost the papers!!!

See what they say!

I'm going to turn it down to 4, see if that works if not take it off and get it vag.com checked.

Steve

I'd take it off, get the codes cleared and then run with it off for a few weeks.

No Christmas tree dash would then narrow it down to the tuning box, so you could then try putting it back on 4/5 and see what happens.

Ok VERY weird happenings

Went to the garage and filled up with BP Derv, Started the car, warning light came on.

Drove home (30ish miles) stopped car outside.

Just been out again and the light hasn't come on (done another 50 miles!)

Could it have been the fuel? I did have to fill up in Birmingham and thats when the trouble started!?

Steve

EPC - have a look at your brake lights and the switch.
