The great laptop bargain hunt!!

Featured Replies

Right, next week I'll be ordering myself a laptop, it must have the following as a minimum:

  • 1.8GHz Core Duo, 2MB cache.
  • 2GB RAM.
  • Wireless built in.
  • 14.1" or 15.4" screen - not after a 17" jobby.
  • Decent looking case :o
  • Decent battery life (3hrs+ ideally).

£650 is the budget including Office for Students, and I think I'd prefer XP over Vista. :)

So whats the best you can find???

Tom:

Have a look on American websites to see if you see a laptop that you like and I could get you a bargain while the exchange rate is so favourable ;)

Fry's

Best buy

or any others you can think of.

Oh, and I can legally preload vista for free if you like...

Hurry up as I leave very soon.

Blimey Em, thats opened up a minefield!!!

How can you do Vista??

And when do you leave!!! :P

I leave tomorrow evening. If you can tell me what you want within the next 3 hours I will be able to get it and load vista.

Basically my step father is a uni proffessor which means he gets given the full wack edition of vista and it can be loaded on as many computers as he likes with just the password.

Again, tell me what you are after and I will buy it on my credit card, I would need the money back again asap so I won't occour any interest.

Hiya em how about bringing back a suitcase full of Porta Cables on a group buy :D

Em, thats extremely generous indeed, I'll have a chat on MSN when I get home this evening.

That looks spot on DrZ, I like the look of the Vostro as they don't have any ****ty branded software add-ons...

They are very decent machines - we've bought a few recently.

Another  for the Vostro range. I've been impressed with the build quality for the price.

Just beware on buying from the states Tom, you may struggle with getting warrantee if you ever need it.. and if em gets stung at customs, wont be the bargain you first think..

The dell vostros on DMX dimension are a cracking deal.. im even looking at one myself.. altho me being me wants the XPS1730 :o

Cheers Col.

Thanks Emily for the generosity, but I'm going to buy from over here for piece of mind, although must say I was very tempted indeed!!!

Indeed. If you have to pay VAT and Duty then it soon becomes very expensive

Plus I think that Vista anywhere license would be for use by him or stuff related to his uni not worldwide, although i could be wrong.

I can understand, that's possibly the safer option. America is so cheap at the moment, Roo says he more than paid for his £350 ticket in electricals, clothes etc by buying stuff over there.

I was wrong when I said I had a CD with vista on it... what I meant was that I had a full copy of office.

Hope you get a bargain what ever you get

Dell, not been disappointed yet.

Em

I know a guy out who wants a fluffy toy brought back for xmas and delivered to a london address, hes paying £500 as well can you help:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Check Ebuyer and Dabs for Toshiba and HP business laptops.

You'll get a better quality lappy than a home systems that has all the money spent on a gfx chip and get a crap keyboard.

You'll get cash back on it too often.
