205 fronts....225 backs ...OK or not ?

Featured Replies

I now have two knackered 205/50/17's on the rear after the track day ..............but I have two new Bridgestone Potenza's 225/45/17's ready to replace them with ..............but I still have 205/50/17's on the front .

So my question is , what will the car handle like with that set up ?........no difference or totally different ?

You should sell them Pete, i'll give you

I think legally you can't have wider tyres on the front...than the rear???

Whatever.....would look pretty silly if you had the wider ones on the front.;)

Geoff is right... I'm running 205's at front and 225's at rear. It is the only way legal and it runs fine. In fact, it is recommended to have the new tyres on the back as they bed in better.

I'm sure you would Geoff ;) , but we all know that nobody can buy 4 new tyres for

Pete,

Bridgestone Potenza's 225/45/17's sounds like the tyres on my Superb that need replacing, mine are 91Y's, are these the same?

John ,I don't know what 91Y means.............they are 225/45VR17 S-02 rotational , if that's any help .

Doesn't the 91Y refer to the load rating? See here

Chris

I realise that the wider tyres have to go on the back , but what does it do for the handling ?

I did the trackday on this and it was fine. Didn't notice anything different from previous brisk driving on Englands finest private roads...

Thanks Adrian and Q regarding the handling ...........I'll put them on then :D

Chris , thanks for the link ........interesting reading !

I ran this setup for 7,000 miles, no worries, I couldn't tell any difference. It would have been a pain in the ar5e if I had got a puncture and had the wrong size spare though !

Its the load (91)and speed rating Y as mentioned in another reply , mine are model RE040 so I dont think yours are the same. Y = expensive
