Xenon lights with headlight protectors OK?

Featured Replies

Last time I cleaned the furby, I was quite worried by the fact there were small chips on the plastic / glass headlights.

When I looked at the cost of replacing HID bulbs, I wanted to get some headlight protector clip-on covers thingies, but thought you couldn't do it with xenon lights because of the washer jets, etc.

However, Wayne has had his furby delivered with xenons and headlight covers (which look v good  )

So I suppose you can have protectors on the lights, regardless whether there are of the classic halogen or HID type...

Anyone know what the "official" line is on this, both from Skoda and also from a legal point of view?

If there's no problem fitting them, then I'll deffo get some :)

Well I also wanted some but thought that the plastic cover would disrupt the projected beam from the Xenon.

I wouldn't have thought the washers would foul and seeing as dealers have fitted this from new to a Fabia with Xenon

Is on the skoda uk web site under accessories... oh bugger it wait a minute...

This has been discussed in the past in the context of the Octavia and the official line was NO. But there again, some members have fitted 17" or even 18" wheels to their Estates whereas Skoda won't.

Thanks Denis, that was the answer I was kind of expecting :)

I guess the common answer is "yes" then ;) But if I have a headlight problem, would the covers "void" any warranty claim?

suppose I'd just remove them before bringing car to dealer

Jeff, that's the price Skoda put on the accessories website.

All in all, I think I'll invest in a pair. Even if I don't have it for everyday usage, I'd deffo stick them on for track days, etc... (assuming it's a 5 minute fitting job??)

You should just use gaffer tape to protect the lights like everyone else

In my experience with Xenons, they run cooler than halogens, so I wouldn't expect any overheating problems. I think there may be an issue in law, regarding effects on the beam pattern, causing possible dazzle. I wouldn't expect it to give any problems on the road, though.......
