Changing alloys - tracking question ?

Featured Replies

Decided I'm going to buy a set of OZ F1 Cup 16" alloys

with Pirelli P Zero Nero 225/45/16 tyres.

The tyres come fitted and balanced.

These will replace my damaged Skoda 16's,

which are fitted with noisy Dunlop Sport

SP2000 205/55/16's.

1. Do I need to get the tracking done.

Car was serviced last week and tracking was

in, but the tyres are 225/45's, so different

from what was fitted originally. Does this

have any bearing on matters.

2. Spare is Dunlop SP Sport2000 205/55/16

fitted on steel rim. Is it a problem using

the spare if I get a flat considering it

is a 205, and the new tyres are 225.

3. The place I am buying the F1 cups from say

they fit the RS, even though the RS takes a 5 stud

and these look like at least 8, or is that cosmetic ?

thx

1) If the wheels are balanced, I see no problems. If the tracking is out, it will be out whatever wheels you use. Changing them over should have no effect at all, I hope. :D

2) Should think it's not a problem in an emergency. I ran three 205/40 17s, with a 185/60 14 spare for 30 miles, and it didn't feel odd at all.

3) I think they look like this because there's some combo of those 8 studs than means they fit 4 stud hubs too. This is just an assumption that the makers make one model to fit a much wider variety of cars, than just VAG?

1) Re tracking if they say its in it should be OK but also look at the old tyres for signs of un-even wear when they come off, if in doubt & for what little it costs compared with new tyres get it checked

3) Some wheels come with different centres so when you get yours they may have 5 studs, not 8, suggest you ask as they will look completely different. If not then its some sort of cap, make sure its locked on & not just a push fit as they sometimes go walkies & are also nick able

Thanks for the advice.

Havn't placed the order yet

Which are better PZero Neros, BStone RE720's or Eagle F1's ?

If your tracking needs doing then it's best to have it done when your putting on new tyres.

The great tyre debate rages on.......personally I like the Pirelli PZero Rossos although I haven't tried any other brands apart from the crappy Dunlops that came as standard.

The Neros have a hard shoulder so may not be as comfortable on ride than say the Rosso.

Jon (TaviaRS) likes the Neros.

Toyos anyone ?? I like them but havent tried the others
