Removing radio with factory phone holder

Featured Replies

Hi,

I know how to remove Stream radio, but my car has a Bluetooth phone support preinstalled at the factory, meaning that it has a holder for the phone on the right side of the radio (steering wheel is on the left). The phone holder is partly on top of the rim (I suspect that the rim might even be bit different on that corner compared to "normal" rims). When trying to remove the rim around the radio the phone holder sits tightly to something and makes the removal of the rim impossible.

Anyone know how the phone holder is attached and how it could be detached?

Thanks!

Of course :)

Its hard to see that picture clearly as its dark, have you had this particular head unit out? Does the kit run down the side of the radio, so once the radio is loose so will be the kit.

Thanks for your reply, here are better photos. The problem is that I haven't had this unit out, so it may well be that the phone holder it attached to the radio (if that's what you meant).

I've removed mine. You have to open the plastic phone holder, and to open it it can only be done by force, putting flat screwdriver between front half and back hals. There are no screws. After you open it, you'll see screws inside. If you want to remove it definetely, you'll need new fascia (the existing one has a "channel" where holder is passing through) and the trim (the existing one has the hole where cable is going through). To open the holder, you can easily brake it, as I broke mine.

Thanks for the tip.

I managed to remove my radio according to the following steps:

  1. Remove the four plastic screw covers on the radio's corners.
  2. Remove the 4 torx screws from the radio. This makes the phone holder a bit more loose.
  3. Start removing the rim from the bottom.
  4. When the rim is loose everywhere except near phone holder, just pull the radio out as far as it goes (1-2 cm) and gently (but firmly) move the phone holder away from the radio
  5. You can now remove the rim as you can get the radio and phone holder slightly apart and the rim fits between those.

Thank all, and hopefully this thread will help others with similar problems :)
