had a play with a few head units in halfords earlier, i think JVC, Alpine, Sony, and a Kenwood, all were around £150 which is what i can afford. Whilst all controlled the ipod ok, i couldn't scroll through by Album? is this a setting i didn't find, or can i only go through the entire contents of my ipod song by song? which is obviously a bad thing!

Even with the vouchers, chances are Halfords will still be more expensive. I use halfords to pop in and play with the stereos, listen to speakers etc. then buy elsewhere for much less dosh.

Most HUs that control Ipods do so by using playlists created on the ipod itself, and you sometimes use the radio presets to select a playlist. Only the very expensive HU's tend to give you full control.

Like Mattbeef said CAD are much cheaper than the high street retailers. They tend to discount headunits quite heavily. Alternatively you could try ebay.

Some headunits are better than others for navigating the ipod - the Kenwood I have is a bit tricky so I've created lots of playlists as it takes ages to get to the song or album you want otherwise. The Alpine I had before though was "Full Speed" and let you browse very efficiently.
