17" any good?

Featured Replies

Hi

Just wondering what people think of 17's on there car over standard vRS alloys?

And does ti throw the speedo etc out? or is there some sort of fix?

Even with 17 running 40 profile, the rolling radius is still different to 16" standards with 45 profile!!

Any comments about traction etc, would be good before i waste my money

Thanks, Dave

If the rolling radius is slightly larger then it will actually make the speedo a bit more accurate than it was before.

I've seen a fair few furbies with 17" wheels and think they are a decent size to go for. 18s or 19s look too large for my liking.

Mk1 octavia VRS wheels are a popular choice.

It's only about 2% different, so no real issue. It actually is 2% in the "right" way in that your speed will be more accurate in reality, compared to speedo (as stock, it overreads by a fair amount ;))

lower profile tyres = less sidewall flex, which does help with handling a little bit. 40 over 45 is negligible though. Choice of tyre brand would have more impact.

I love 17s on my car. :) (PS: It's not a vRS though, just an observation)

17s are awsome on the VRS, any biggher and you destroy the handling and ride comfort. If you put on 17s and lower the car appropriately then it looks the nuts!

17" alloys are fine

Im running Ocatvia mk1 17" VRS spiders on my Fabia, with 205/40/17 tires

The speedo is fine and is actually more accurate

When my speedo on the car reads 60mph on my Roadangel my true speed is indicated at 58/59mph so the speedo will still be safe

heres a pic, needs lowering obviously

On my Fabia vRS I've got: 17" mk1 Octy's, Falken 452 (205/40/17) tyres and Eibachs (-25mm); the car is transformed. Can thoroughly recommend. Many others here have this combo and AFAIK they're pleased.

I had concerns that the ride would be too harsh, but it's not. In fact, the comfort factor is better than the standard set up IMO.
