Now can't open back door!

Featured Replies

Was so pleased with myself after fixing the leak on back door. Until I took a passenger in back who couldn't get out:O,

Can anyone tell me what I could have done? Also can I fix it without having to take all the trim off again?:)

Any help greatly appreciated

Have you accidently activated the childproof locks.

Could you open it from the outside? perhaps you didn't reinsert the cable connector to the handle properly in the actual door? I only know this because I did on the front passenger door on mine. :D:o Only solution was to remove the doorcard again, at least enough for me to get a hand in and rehook the cable back in. :)

I have experienced this problem before - while doing the same job of sealing the rear door carriers.

It's very easy for the cable which activates the door lock to become detached when replacing the door card.

Nothing else for it but to remove the door card!!!

As a check before you do this - pull the interior door handle. If it is disconnected you will feel little or no resistance when trying to open the door. Also if it IS a child lock issue then you would be able to open the door from outside!! Hope this helps

I've tried the child lock. Unforuntately not that. I can open door from outside. It's from inside that I can't. When I pull hande I can not feel any pressure. WIll the problem be outside of panel (between door card and door) or will I have to break seal I have put in to stop leaking

Hi again.

Think that problem will be between interior door handle and lock i.e. The small barrel shape at the end of the cable has become disconnected or the outer cable has not been properly relocated into the door handle bracket.

In either case the door card will have to come off again.

Just check before you replace the door card that the cable end is properly located and that the outer cable has been pulled tight and relocated into its' retainer on the door handle mechanism.

Best of luck!!

Yes - no worries about the seal. It's just the connector between the handle and the doorcard. :) You might being on a rear door, that you can get a hand in to rehook the roddy bit on the end back in to the door handle end, as it's close to the edge of the door card, at the top (where the door handle is on the outside, logically :D)

As I slightly damaged two of the clips, I will buy some more before trying again. Also the I managed to break the small bit of trim where the door lock button pkes up trhough the trim, so will buy one of these as well.

Thanks for all your help
