Steels for a Octy II 4x4?

Featured Replies

Hello all.

My dad has a late 2006 Octavia II 4x4 1.9TDi PD and wants to put snow tires on it to make sure he gets to work over the next few months (Buxton gets a fair bit of snow) and then stick them in the garage until next winter.

He's been able to find a set of good snow tires but is having difficulty finding steel rims to put them on. We're not totally sure whats going to fit the car and what they will do to the tire pressure sensors and warranty and all that.

Any help, ideas, suggestions or pointers very much welcomed.

PS- I'm sorry I havent been on here in ages. My little Felicia was taken by my Grandpa when he decided he couldnt drive the land rover anymore.

Just standard 16" steelies from a classic would do the trick. May also be worth considering some second hand alloys, seen sets for as little as £100, good value despite being cosmetically tatty.

Don't need to worry about tyre pressure sensors, as there isn't a sensor as such as they work on the abs sensors. The ECU looks at the difference in rotational speed of the wheels to establish whether or not there is a tyre with drastically less pressure than the other. :)

You sir, are a legend. That's just what I wanted to hear (I always wondered how it got the pressures)

Next question - anyone got 4 steels they want to sell? :D

Hi,

Although you say you have snow tyres I can offer you another solution. I run vredestein tyres on my Octy with great success. Although they make good summer tyres they also make fabulous winter tyres. I spoke to their rep the other day and he gave me a brochure for a new product they have just launched. It is called the Vredestein QUATRAC 3 which is basically a summer tyre on the outside and a winter tyre tread on the inside. A curious combination I know but it could save you having to keep changing wheels over and also your car looking naff on steelies for 4 or 5 months.

here is their website...

Thank you G.K.

The Quatrak 3's look very cool but (according to our local tyre place) they arnt making them in octy2 size yet. So my dad went and bought a full set of Quatrak 2's which are just normal all weather tyres without the winter inside / summer outside tread.

Thanks again for the quick responces.
