Wobbly cambelt roller

Featured Replies

Hi

I am having a few problems at the moment with my 04 VRS, mainly some funny noises coming from the engine. I have just dug around and found where they are coming from but i need some advice on how to tackle them.

One of the cambelt rollers is wobbling in no particular rythem and obviousl wobbling the belt too. This is making a racket.... but I cant see any way of tightening it up.

The second is ticking injectors, the more revs you give it, the faster they tick. And it is quite loud too.

Help:confused:

you need to have wobbly cambelt idlers checked NOW!

If it's doing what you describe it is just waiting to empty your wallet if you leave it.

"Noisy" injectors is normal, they do make a quite pronounced click/tick, and the rate of tick is directly related to engine rpm.

Do not run the engine/drive whatsoever - get the car recovered to your favourite garage.

You could have just had a lucky escape - or perhaps not.

mmm, had a blast in yesterday too - an italian tune up!!!

So a wobbley tensioner is a bad thing to drive on?? Cn I tighten it up myself? I only had the belt put on 4 months ago.

If the belt has already slipped - your tapping could be valves hitting pistons!

If it hasn't caused damage, it will have to be correctly tensioned/timed and preferably replaced.

If damage hasn't already been done and it comes off/slips more than a little, you'll probably need a new engine.

Good news is you should have some comeback on the people (assuming it was a reputable garage) that changed it.

Sorry to ask, are you sure it is the cambelt and not an auxiliary belt roller?
