Spring Problem!!

Featured Replies

Wife came home tonight saying she could hear a strange noise when turning sharp left or right at slow speeds reversing or going forward. I had a quick drive and found that the front spring is like sticking when turning on nearly full lock and springing back into place when you drive off hence the springing sound. I noticed too that on the o/s front the car wheel is level with the arch almost but on the near side it's about and inch above arch to wheel. I popped the bonnet and noticed that the plastice rubber cicle thing on top of the strut on the nr side was about an inch off the body work on top of the strut. The o/s where the car is sitting low is sat nicley onto of the strut which makes no sense. We have stupid speed bumps on our street so I guess these are to blame but has anybody had similar problems and any body know the price of new springs/ shockers? I will have a better look in the light tomorrow and get the car jacked up.

Hope I make sense

Ben

Oh and my car is a Octavia 1.8 vrs 02 56k on the clock.

I would check the front springs, sounds like the o/s has broken - seems be a fairly common problem.

I can confirm front o/s spring is broken! gutted :finger:mad:

low milage for the spings to fail? That is one thing that is yet to break on my 2001 128k miler!

It is advised to replace the pair. If your doing a DIY change, then a tip for getting the hub assembly off the shock is to use an allan key mounted in a socket set to help open things up :-)

Snapped my o/s/f new years eve as well quoted £37 from gfs but bought complete set of koni;s from demon tweeks for£92

My o/s/r spring broke May 07 & my 02 vRS had only covered 32k.

I relaced all the lot with a Weitec spring kit, which I bought from Awesome, but I'm now replacing the shocks with Koni adjustable, because I feel that the standard shocks aren't dampening enough with the uprated springs.

Big question is now do I replace all the springs ? I cant afford to lower the car as I tow a caravan. can I get some koni's for example that won't lower the car?

I wondered about replacing my stock shocks with some Konis' but I found that virtually everything I considered was going to lower the car, apart from staying with stock springs. In the end I just went for some replacement OEM shocks (and stuck with my original springs) to get the car through the MOT, which was fine (two of the shocks were knackered), but one of my new ones is now leaking..... :-(
