Fabia Brake Upgrade

Featured Replies

Ok heres the thing, As most of you know I have a 1.4 fabia which I will be rebuilding/ uprating next year. I have the chance to buy vrs carriers, calipers, discs 288mm etc at a cheap price. Should I buy these and fit them to my fabia (as far as I know you need the hub and bearing for them to fit) and give it some serious stopping power or just stick with the standard 256mm discs and put some good discs and pads in.

It will be running on 15 inch wheels and I think the vrs calipers will fit in ok, Im pretty sure 312mm wont though.

Any comments and thoughts welcome

Depends why you want to upgrade. I'd probably stick with the originals and upgrade the pads, discs and fluid.... If you want to go to 288mm, you might as well just go straight to 312mm and put 16" alloys on.... :D

only thing is that I have just bought my alloys and are sitting next to me as I speak

i could be wrong,so don't take this as gospel, but i think i remember reading on here that the 288mm brakes we all swap for 312's are next to worthless because they won't go on to lesser models without a hub conversion

Yeah I would need to get some hubs from a breaker but that shouldnt be to hard.

I am guessing the wheel bearings are all the same (72mm with power steering) for all the models of fabia.

Does anyone know how much a new vrs front caliper is and what the size of the piston is ?

i have a set of disks carriers, callipers and pads taken off my fabia at about 3000miles that i would accept a reasonable offer for:thumbup:

if you already have 15" wheels and want to carry on running them then get the 288mm brakes but yeah you'll need the hub, hub carriers and might as well do bearings while your at it.

is it worth it though? don't want to sound negative but is it really worth tuning and playing with a 1.4 when you could so easily get something more powerful to start with.

my brother has been looking into this regards his focus and you can buy 2001-2002 ibiza cupra's for under 4k and a seriously mod'd one for under 10k running 300bhp+ with everything already done to it.
