Fabia rumbling noise and vibration

Featured Replies

Hello everybody, and happy new year. My Fabia recently started to make a low rumbling noise which increases with speed. The noise is coupled with vibration which is so strong that when I look in the rear view mirror the image is blurry. The strange thing is that the rumbling gets less when I make right corners, and increases drastically when I make left corners. The noise is so bad that driving long distances is out of the question. I had new tyres fitted a week ago, but the noise persists. Could it be the wheel bearings on the front right wheel causing the problem (noise increases in left turn, putting more pressure on right wheel)? I appreciate any advice and commentary. Also how much should wheel bearing replacement cost if that is the cause of the noise?

Sounds like O/S front wheel bearing for sure. Had a similar thing on my last car.

EDIT: Sorry, unsure as to replacement costs/ effort. Not had to replace a wheel bearing on the Fabia yet.

The wheel bearing are expensive for the fabia,

A rear wheel bearing was in the region of 60 quid, the front ones must be around that price too.

Its the fitting thats costly as the hub has to be removed and the old bearing pressed out and a new one re-fitted using specialist toolage

£60?????? Ouch....my BMW one cost less than that. :(

I think I paid about £90 for a front wheel bearing on my fabia a few months ago. I can't be sure though as that was around the time I was having a few other problems with the car and had money going everywhere!

Thanx for the replies fellow Skoda drivers. 60 to 90 Quid is around 150-225 CHF (I live in Switzerland) which sounds expensive for a round metal ball, what a ripoff.

Ha Ha, I got both my B5 Passat 4-Motion front wheel bearings changed last month and it was "only" £450 - that included a four wheel alignment check. I found that to be okay as I thought that it was the front diff/gearbox that was the problem, now that would have been a bit more expensive!

they renowned for it
