pd130 engine behaviour

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I was wondering if any of you guys noticed the same engine behaviour on the vrs as I do with my 130tdi cordoba.

With the car in neutral, very slowly increase the revs, at about 2000rpm i can hear the turbo whistling when it gets to about 2100rpm with the foot held steady the revs oscilate a little maybe by about 25rpm.

increasing the revs slowly till 3000rpm the turbo whistle just stops and there is no sign of it after that.

Is this normal behaviour for the 130tdi?

Any comments greatly appreciated.

mine did this, a new egr valve fixed it.

If u want to see for yourself, Pull the vac pip off the egr valve and block it with a bolt. You will see the boosting up and down has gone. But be prepared to erase any fault codes.

OK, so EGR valve is a possibility,

The car is a 2006 with only 14k on the clock, quite a low mileage for this to go?

Is the whistleing turbo only between 2 and 3k normal also?

Depends how loud the whislting is?

The whistle is really loud, my previous 150pd toledo never sounded like that, the bit that confuses me is that it just completely switches off at 3k, no gradual change.

The whilstle is louder when the egr valve opens, like on a morning mine starts to make a whistle like a kettle boiling when the vavle opens.

My money is still on a faulty egr, do you have any fault codes at all?

Hi,

no fault codes - car seems quite thirsty at the mo anout 400-450 miles per tank, also seems quite slow as well - no smoke at all out of it.

400-450 miles out of a tank is thirsty? I normally get 400 max!

What size tank is the Cordoba?

When my EGR was knackered my mpg was down too, as was the power. Felt like a new car once that was replaced and much better on fuel.

it takes roughly £40 to brim it -

Is it likely to be the actual valve or the electrical (solenoid?) that controls it thats on its way out?

it could be either, when the dealers did mine they replaced both, but my turbo had gone too and flooded the air system with oil.

They are both about £100. have a look on ebay, theres always one going on there.

Yup, then turn it down using VAG-COM to stop it happening again. :D

i only get about 400 to a tank

I think that 400 miles to a tank in Vrs is completly normal, thats what i get give or take 30 miles eachway and have done ever since the car was new

Maybe 450 on occasional mototrway trips, Thats without the air release filling method

Yeah, ive read that a few people have had it turned down, i am wondering if it would be worth cleaning the valve out first?

I suppose I would need to find someone in the durham area with a vagcom..
