PS3 one month old and broken!

Featured Replies

My ps3 stopped working last night! Just started loading a game and then it just stopped! Ejected disc tryed again, now it wont run any disc's! Looked on the net and this seems to be a commen problem with them bit of a joke really when you think it's £300 to buy!

Any how took it back this morning where i got it and they replaced it with another one (last one in shop) But now i have to start my games all over again.....great !

This one better be ok!

Seems to be a common problem - was speaking to a guy in Game and the bloke in front of me was bringing his one back on 27th Dec

I have no issues with mine but then i really only play on my xbox360 as was not very keen on the ps3

Not just 360s that break then.

You need a bit of luck with these things. A friend of mine has taken back 4 Xboxes in less than a year. I have had two 360s in just over two years with no problems.

Good luck with the new console.

I guess it still turned on as you managed to try to insert a disc. You could have transferred the save games onto a usb memory stick.

The Xbox's are repaired near where I work and they appear have taken on half of Poland to deal with it.

I think the problem is that the devices and designs don't get properly tested before they start selling the first batches.

Touch wood I've never had a problem with mine (apart from the lack of good games)

Is it a 40G or a 60G model?

It's a 40gb i wanted a 60 but could'nt get one they are being discountined!

As for the memory stick good idea but not got any so may go out and buy some now.

The 60GB PS3 is now discontinued, in an effort to boost poor sales Sony have crippled the spec in order to reduce the price. The 40GB has less USB ports, no card reader and cannot play PS2 or PSone titles.

The new XBOX 360s, that feature a HDMI port now feature a redesigned PCB and better components and dont suffer from the red rings of death.

sorry but

so much for everyone slating microsoft and the xbox 360 for being ****e and cheap tat as they keep breaking, glad to see sony are living up to their old and currently undeserved reputation for quality :)

still i hope it gets sorted out as quickly and efficiently as my xbox 360 did :) it took under 2 weeks all in from phone call to back in my living room again i think :)

my xbox has the HDMI port (not an Elite) and new PCB :D

I would guess the Elite was a way to terminate making the old PCB and sell off stock while running up production of the new PCB and selling it in the Elite.

Now that is done they can use the new PCB everywhere.

Is it me or didn't the PS2 have an iffy CD drive and the PS1 too? Really think sony need to slap whoever makes their CD drives if so.

This is just my experience of Sony Playstation products and I'm by no means a fan boy;

Sony PS1 - workhorse, no faults

Sony PS2 - Workhorse, no faults

Sony PSP - Workhorse, no faults

Sony PS3 - Workhorse, no faults

I have bought each console when they first came out, being on the waiting list for PS2 and PS3 and sourcing my PSP from Japan, so maybe the quality of workmanship goes down the more they sell?

I've had my PS3 for over a year now - brought it back from Japan in Jan last year :) It's been very reliable, one or two kind of "soft crashes" where I tell it to turn off then back on again and it's fine.

Although I don't play that many games on it as I'm away far too much at the moment, it's folding 24/7 so certainly gets a workout.

Interestingly, the 60GB Jap consoles were the only ones made in Japan at the time. All others were made in China IIRC. I don't know where the newer models sold in the EU are made though...

As above, had a PS1, still got an original day of release PS2, a PS3 60gb, and 2 PSP's (normal + slim & lite on cracked FW)

Got a 42" Sony LCD, and still got an old 32" Flat trinitron CRT relegated to the bedroom still absolutely perfect and amazing picture, Sony VCR still perfect after well over 10 years service.

Never had a problem with anything Sony, I think they do deserve there reputation.

My PS3 60gb was apparently made in China.
