put a van aaken tuning box onto my vrs yesterday

Featured Replies

all i can say is holy **** it's made a difference.

power feels seamless and revs much much higher up the rev range than it previously did, and it is a hell of a lot faster than before. fuel consumption appears to be about the same, but it is far more tempting to floor it more often because of the fun factor!

it was a piece of p1ss to fit, literally just undid a connector off the side of the engine block and connected it to the tuning box cable, then connected another plug into the side of the engine block, and then connected 2 more cables to the battery and voila it was fitted. 20 mins at the most.

i am getting a remap next week as i had already booked in for it, so i'll be removing the tuning box, so i'll write a report on what i think the difference between the tuning box and a proper remap are.

Be sure to let us know what differences you found between the tuning box and the remap :-)

i have got the dilemma of deciding whether to just stick with the tuning box now, or go for the remap and get rid of the tuning box. it's hard because i am so impressed with the tuning box, i really can't see the remap being THAT much better that it's worth the extra money.

How much did the tuning box cost? I've been thinking about fitting one of these. I saw one advertised in my local garage when I took mine in for it's M.O.T. It was a different make though.

Go for the remap-it's soooooo much better.

How much do you want for the tuning box?

I've had one of these boxes in a Golf PD130, my Fabia and a VW Transporter - they are tremendous bits of kit.

I'd have to say they are a good alternative to a remap - pound for pound they van't be beaten.

i have just come back from my first proper long motorway journey since installing this box.

omg, this car is an absolute weapon in the higher gears now. from 60 onwards there is awesome amounts of pull in 6th gear, there isn't a hope in hell that your average car on the road would keep with me accelerating up to around 110 (on a private track obviously ;)).

if the remap i'm getting is only as good as this then i'll be happy, if it's better then i'll be smiling for a long time to come.

Eddddieeeee !!

fabia=fastest car on the road.

if the average remapped fabia makes 160bhp how will it be that much fster than the average car on the motorway?

i wasn't claiming to be the fastest car on the road, ffs i've owned plenty of much faster cars than the fabia.

what i said was that it is faster than your average car on the road.

what *is* the average car anyway?

shall i just delete this thread and say that it's faster than it was, and leave it at that?

what *is* the average car anyway?

Well the best selling car in the UK is the Corsa is it not?

Followed by Fiesta, Clio Etc I'd expect.

And most of those are under 110bhp

So yes I would say a remapped Fabia is quicker than the average car on the road.

That's the mode average, yes...

Adam, dont be doing the 60mph upwards in 6th acceleration too often matey, especially when mapped, as you will be getting clutch slip in no time.......

I know what you mean though, a mapped pd130 has a lot of torque, which is what makes it feel quick, and has v.good in gear performance......

60 is about 2000 revs in 6th, surely that is ok?

Thank you for this very usefull post :rolleyes::rolleyes:

not on full throttle nope............ you will have to feather the throttle in maybe 3/4 throttle till maybe 2.5k rpm then nail it ;)

Or drop a cog into 5th, that will be ok

Its a nippy car, 150-160bhp in a small car with a wall of torque is going to be.

Hi

how much did it cost for the van aaken tuning box

Thought Van Aaken went into receivership 6 months ago?

Edit: Some google digging, appears they went under back in 2007!

First dibs if you sell it after getting your remap!
