Car Washing

Featured Replies

I like handwashing and waxing my car as it not only makes you feel good but gets you outdoors for a bit.

What I don't like is just when you've dried and waxed it I find drips of water

It's really irritating when that happens.

It usally drips from plastic side trim, panel gaps or where the mirrors meet the pillars

What do you like/dislike about car washing?

And any tips for avoiding these "drips"

i used to take it a race up the motorway to drip dry it before shammyin it dry. ;)

now i cant be @rsed & just take her race up the motorway... :D

anyone ever used 'waterless' car wash? mainly that spray and shine stuff advertised on the shopping channels before christmas... looks interesting.

I usually push the door mirrors in and out, seems to stop some of the drips. But I hate the rear license plate as water drips from behind it after I finished drying it. I usually try and run my fingers along it to try and squeze as much water out as possible. I'll also open and shut the doors to encourage more water out from various bits of trim.

The totally dedicated detailers use a garden leaf blower to get rid of all of the drips.

That's a bit much even for me though.

I just take my time. The drips stop eventually.

hate washing it in the winter to cold but it needs to be done to keep the crap off the car

I let the Polish guys at Tesco do it!:D

You mean you guys wash your cars?

Dry it, move it from outside to the car pull and leave it for 10 minutes, then fold the mirrors and dry that area again. Dry all other drips and around the door.

I've applied a winter wax coating now, so i think it should just be a wash and dry :)

It's far better NOT to clean the car, apart from the windows.

The oily buildup from diesel fumes protects paintwork from fading due to ultraviolet radiation. It also fills in scratches and stops rust forming.

Plus of course a dirty and unloved-looking car is less likely to be keyed by yobs.

Give me a minute and I'll think of a few more excuses...

One of my former colleagues got stopped by the police as his car was filthy.

He couldn't be asked washing it for a few months and the coppers stopped him thinking he was a scroat who might have out of date tax or an un-roadworthy car.

I use a water magnet to take off the access water after washing. Never had any problems with it.

Cheers

Dave.

They're the worst drying towels ever. Y fronts would do the job better.

Never had any probs myself..... Does the whole car with only 1 or sometimes 2 wringings out.

I tried one of those water magnets and it gave my lovely paintwork swirls, went straight in the bin :thumbdwn:

I always use a nice soft microfibre towel now and there are no problems.

The rear windows on the estate drip for bloody ages, I always ping the fuel filler flap open, spring the mirrors in and out a few times and slam the boot and the doors once or twice, that cures most of the drips, the neighbours thinks i'm a nutter

A trip i used to use during my car valeting career was use a vacuum and suck all the water out!! hehe

Then clean the inside and by the time i got to the outside it was completely dry and i was able to polish away to my hearts content!!!

Don't really clean my too often now i live in a flat and i cant be arsed to drive to car wash so hasn't been washed for around 4 months now!!!!

I found the one I got worked ok for a short while and then started to go hard.

Bearing in mind the Sonus drying towels are cheaper I don't see any point to ever buy a megs water magnet.
