Don't bother!

Ordered the part from vagparts? went to fit it this afternoon and despite trimming and swopping radio and cubby hole round it doesn't work.

Problem is primarily with the car in first third and fifth the cup holder can't extend properly and if it does, it fowls against the gear stick.

oh well, have to go back to the drawing board.

If it matters this was a '99 pre face lift GLX.

Didn't know it fitted the Octy anyway..... Thought it was just a polo / fabia / ibiza fitment.

Swap the cupholder to the top, and put the stereo on the bottom, then you will have no problems with the gear kn0b getting in the way.

tried it that way round as well, radio fouls the cup holder, and still issues with gear stick.

I new it was primarily a fabia thing but thought it was worth a shot.

I'll have to have another look and see why it won't fit?

I trimmed the rear projection so it sat in the holes in the back of the double din opening and trimmed off a couple of tabs at top left and top right on the front to allow it to sit flush, When it was in the lower space good colour match and flush, just couldn't open it?

tried it in the top position above the radio and i was having the radio and cup holders jamming together.

If i trim off all the plastic above the cubby hole on the cup holder and put some packing underneath?

What did others do?

I cant find a better picture, this is the cupholder partly installed in my old octy.

well i got it in! lots of butchery though, i might yet remove what is left of the tray and use some kind of mdf spacer between radio and cup holder, just to give a bit more clearance
