What oil for remapped VRS?

Featured Replies

I know this has been asked a few times but what oil do you guys reccomend for a 01 VRS as my 40k service will be due soon and wondering what oil to use as i drive the car quite hard. and would you guys reccomend a change every 5k? or is this excessive?

i used to use maganatec but recently heards its really not what its made out to be.

The standard stuff.

the fact its remapped changes nothing about how the engine is going to work.

Only that everything will be working harder, oil temps will be higher...

I switched to a fully synthetic, Im using Mobil 1 0w40 which will cost you about £26 for an oil change (they sell it in Costco)

Mine was run remapped, on variable servicing, and was run on the standard stuff. The castrol SLXII I think it was, and the car was driven hard including laps of the nurburgring. Never had any issues in 4 years of ownership.

I personally would go fully synth after remap. The car is under greater stress and anything which can be done to prevent wear should be.For an extra fiver a year in my case, its worth it.

Imo

the cost of oil doesn't bother me providing its not more than £50 for an oil change. think ill go mobil 1 as freely available and has a generally good rep.

I use fully synthetic oil and do a change at 5K.

I have always do this on cars I have tuned!

Probably won't make much difference but I still do it

fully synth isnt as good as you think it is, unless you buy a very good one - ie costs a few quid.

;)

"fully synthetic" means very little without reference to the actual oil base.

At one end of the scale it can be little more than specifically refined mineral base, at the other end it can be proper "synthetic" with an ester base.

The likes of Castrol RS and Mobil1 come into the former catagory, whilst Silkolene Pro-S or Pro-R as examples are the latter - the Ester based synthetics were developed for use in the extreme temperature and load environments of jet engines, so are very capable of dealing with anything your engine will hand out.

Personally I believe the Pro-R/Pro-S range is the best oil you can use, but t's an emotive subject, everyone has their favourites they will swear by and never look anywhere else.

Why not use the oil spec the car came with originally, ie spec VW 503 00 - a fully synthetic 0W-30 LongLife oil? Alternatively you could use the more recent spec 504 00 oil which is a fully synthetic 5W-30 LongLife oil. There are plenty of makes to choose from listed in the threads below:

In practical terms, for road use and with sensibly regular oil changes, any decent quality oil of the right spec will serve the purpose without problem, even if you do drive hard.

If track use is anticipated, then it may be worth making a more considered judgement, as the conditions are considerably more harsh, especially in terms of oil temperature - this is where a good Ester synthetic will really come into its own.

Totally agree. They call the VW/Audi/Skoda stuff "Quantam" - as with any turbo go fully synthetic - so you want Quantam Gold (vw-503-00 or vw-504-00 both will be fine)

As long as the fully synth has the right ester base! if it doesnt, then you're no better off!

what do you think about the yacco galaxy 15w50????

Silkolene Pro S if you're going to use 15w50
