Sat Nav Problem - for the second time!

Featured Replies

Anyone else had this issue? Or anyone know the solution?

I have a VRS with a factory fitted Skoda Sat Nav which has been replaced once within warranty for the fault described below. The fault is now happening again. I don't have a lot of confidence in the guys at our local Skoda dealership from previous discussions with them.

When the Sat Nav is working as expected...

1) If a navigation is active, the current instruction is sent to the driver's display, also showing street names etc. This saves looking at the central main display for the immediate instruction.

2) The driver's display menu for accessing the various settings, has a main menu item called "Navigation"

3) The radio starts in the state it was when the car was last used (i.e. it comes on automatically when the ignition is turned on if it was left on when the ignition was last turned off.

Now that it is malfunctioning, the following occurs:

1) The driver's display shows no navigation instructions. Just the usua MDF display as if the Sat Nav was inactive.

2) The "Navigation" option on the drivers display menu is no longer there - it's dissappeared completely!

3) The radio is always off when the car is started, even though it was on when the car was parked (as soon as this happened I knew the Sat Nav was going to be mis-behaving - and it was)

When I got this problem about 4 months ago, it reset itself to work correctly for a while (no idea how it goes into this state and out of it - not touching any settings). The only thing the dealer could suggest is the replace the unit completely.

I feel that it is unlikely that 2 units would develop the same problem, and that it is either an electrical issue separate from the unit, or a software setting issue. I would be interested in anyone elses view as I am loathe to get yet another unit when the problem doesn't go away.

That happened to mine once. I removed the fuse for the radio (fuse box under bonnet) and waited 30 seconds before replacing it and the fault went away.

I'll give that a try. Will be mighty embarrassing if that's the solution given that the dealer replaced the entire unit. I'll let you know how it goes.

It worked! Thanks Just!

Makes you wonder why a dealer wouldn't think of that.

... unless of course they wanted a spare satellite system after repairing one on warranty!

Hi

This has also happened to me a few times. I disconnected the battery for a few minutes and this also fixed the same fault!

Cheers

Steve
