A question for the detailers

Featured Replies

A colleague of mine recently purchased a 56 plate black Mondeo ST TDCI and after he washed the car and looked at it in the daylight he was disappointed to see the entire car is covered in pretty serious swirl marks and light scratches in the clear coat. It's almost like its been washed with a broom. I told him to take it back to the Ford dealer that sold him the darned thing but he doesn't seem keen on doing that

He always looks after his cars and keeps them clean and he is really gutted at how his new car looks (****e).

It obviously needs professional attention but I have a few questions.

Roughly how much will the entire car (as in every panel) cost to have all the swirls removed?

Any recommendations in the SE London area?

Thanks.

I would say about the £200-£300 pound mark for paint correction depending on how sever.

If you pop onto detailing world there is a list of the local people there and quite a few pros.

Pcitures might help them give an accurate price too.

I'll say that I found scratch-X to be useless at getting anything more than minor fingernail caused scratches out on the ford and VAG paint when i tried.

If he is obssessive about his car he could get a G220 starter kit for about £180ish and get a scrap panel from a body shop, have a practise and then DIY.

about £300 would be right for a full correction detail

you're looking at about £300 - £350 in the south. I have a contact who is based in Bristol if you're friend is interested.

Thanks for the info everyone

I'll speak to him again tomorrow and try to obatain some pics, I tried various compounds and polishes on a small area on the boot and it didn't touch it.

It's disgraceful for a 56 plate motor.

FYI If you can feel the scratches with your finger nail it might require more than just a good polish and could even be a paint shop job.

I'd seriously be getting back to the dealer :(

Yeah, head onto DW and see what can be done from there.

A bit confused about it though, if he looks after his cars why did he buy one in this condition  Or was it case of them not being obvious until now?

Because he is a right T1T and has no idea when it comes to buying a used car, didn't even check the tyres :fap:

As it was a 56 plate I don't think it occurred to him TBH

He was desperate for the car and I don't think he even bothered to look it over properly. He has been getting stick from me ever since. My Octavia has done over 21k miles and it's virtually swirl free :D
