Road Noise

Featured Replies

I recentley had a test drive in a 55 plate fabia vrs with 17,000 miles on it and I thought it was quite noisey at motorway speeds... is this common or do you think the tyres were over or under inflated??

Prob still on factory Conti's. Harder compound and all

So you dont notice alot of road/wind noise while driving yours at speed?

A little bit but not much, thats coming from a Fiesta ST though

Tyre choice makes a heck of a difference - the noise levels are way down for the Proxes I have on now compared to the Primacies it came with. Although seeing how the standard tyres are 45-profile, road noise is always going to be an issue - even more so if it's had 40-profile tyres put on so it can run 17" wheels...

I've never really thought the wind/road noise was intrusive in my vRS and I'm still running the standard Conti Sport Contact 2's. If anything, for a small car, I'd say Skoda have done a fine job of minimising wind/road noise in the cab.

Must of just been the demo car then ;)

Changed to Uniroyals Ralles on my Octavia recently, road noise is way down and the wet grip/traction is excellent, also these tires absorb allot more of the bumps and vibrations on the crap back roads.

Sorry, I have to agree. I absolutely love the looks, performance and economy of the vRS BUT (controversial comment coming up) it is IMHO probably one of the noisiest small cars about. Its part of the package so you just live with it.

Its not fair to bash it too much as most of the blame lays with the good looking wheel size forcing the need for the low profile tyres - I have a feeling it would be much quieter on 15s with fatter squashier boots but then it'd look daft.

I notice the earlier poster says it seems fine coming from a Fiesta ST but nice though they are they are a bit 'fizzy'. From the ride I had in a colleagues Clio Sport Cup the other day I have to say the vRS is an oasis of calm, so it all depends what you are used to.

I'm sure ill be able to cope with it on the long journey to the nurburg lata on this year ;)

yep i agree road noise is quite high in fab vrs - lots of tyre width = more noise...
