vRS 2 Electrical failure

Featured Replies

Anybody had a problem with their Octavia 2 Vrs cutting out?. I had the engine superchipped over a year ago no problems at all but recently the car has broken down 4 times, cutting out completely no ignition lights, power etc. The car has had to be recovered each time and returned to the Garage. The problem is compounded by the fact that after a couple of hours the car starts and will run perfect, after a run of 80 miles plus it just craps out again.

Ignition switch replaced the first time, then a relay was replaced and then the E box was replaced it is back in the Garage for the fourth time as I write this.

Have you reverted to a standard map to see if this makes any difference?

Had it returned to standard a couple of days ago, waiting for an update from the Dealer/Garage.

Superchips have assured me that it is not a fault caused by their software upgrade, anyone had a problem after having this mod done?

I know several owners who have remapped cars and don't have a problem. I'd say you've probably got a loose wire somewhere.

I'd be intrigued to see what the fault memory says.

They reckon at the Garage they can't interogate the memory because by the time they get the car it starts again.

Fault codes are generally stored until erased. Certainly one that is serious enough to do that would leave a trail of some sort I think.

I will be touch with them tomorrow and give you an update, cheers.

My £0.02p as a superchip user, a wirehead and an engineer.......oh, and vag-com user.....

1) The map aint nothing to do with it

2) The ECU will store TDC fault codes until they are manually erased

3) I reckon its a battery or alternator fault (seeing as you had the main power relay and ignition switch replaced already)

Thanks for that info, it will be on the diagnostic machine tomorrow I will let you know what they come back with.

Eagerly awaiting your findings.....

any news?

They don't work weekends, it will be their first job Monday morning. They intend to take their analyser equipment with them on the test run, it craps out around the 40 to 60 mile mark so hopefully they will get the required data this time and get to the bottom of this confidence sapping problem.

Spoken to the garage late this afternoon, they have had it out on a long test drive (200miles) the longest continuous run being around 92 miles, no fault found, so everyone is at a loss, I will get the car back tomorrow and just use it as normal and hopefully it will break down soon, I will also be speaking to Superchip as they have assured me it would not be their software which could cause a problem such as the one I have experienced.

I will keep you updated.

Still nothing conclusive then?

Sounds like a battery or main relay I reckon.
